Little Kanawha Conference seniors ready to take charge

Seniors are a vital part of any high school basketball team. They provide experience, leadership, and know-how to their younger teammates when on the basketball floor. Here are Little Kanawha Conference seniors back to do their thing, one final time:    Bennett is a high-IQ, athletic player with a high upside in all areas of the game. She understands the game of basketball on a fundamental level. She understands when to set screens, dip under the screen as a defender, according to St. Marys' head coach Fred King, "she understands the game better than anyone I have ever coached." She rebounds well. Her shot has improved. She has great vision as a passer. Bennett will be in the spotlight early and often this season. Fellow Class A all-state first-team player and teammate Brynnley Bulluck is rehabbing a torn ACL.       Keen is a seasoned, mentally strong small forward who can handle the pressure of college basketball. She is a phenomenal rim protector, leading the conference in blocks last season. Opponents will have a problem with her back-to-the-basket game because of her lightning-quick feet. She's talented enough to grab a rebound and start the fast break. Keen is long and lanky. She's quick enough to guard one through five and roams the halfcourt in Roane County's diamond press.       [player_tooltip player_id='840060' first='Gracie' last='Montgomery'] is a player with a high ceiling in the game of basketball. She has a natural shot with an easily repeatable motion. She can set her feet, pick and pop, or hit the kick off a drive and kick. She needs to be more physical around the basket as she becomes physically stronger, but the basketball IQ is there. When her confidence matches her skills, she will be a player coaches won't want to miss out on.       Westfall is a solid floor general with a great basketball IQ and even better handles. She walks the walk. She talks the talk. She'll benefit from multiple scorers around her as she prefers to facilitate the offense. Westfall has no problem being a firm hand in the huddle. When she doesn't have to facilitate the offense, she enjoys attacking the basket, creating space to get her own shot. She is a highly coachable player.       Smith is a consistent combo guard, who has improved every year since entering the Ritchie County High School girls' basketball program. She's a hard-working guard with excellent ball-handling skills and a nice perimeter game. She will need to be a key piece if Ritchie County hopes to return to a Class A state semifinal.     Jeffrey is a solid 3-and-D basketball player. She combines great footwork and a smooth shot into a compact package that is difficult to shut down. She's talented and fast enough to pick up smaller players on a defensive switch, but strong enough to handle a power forward if need be, thanks to her great footwork in and around the paint. Jeffrey would be a solid option for many teams.
