PGH Sophomore ID Camp: Team 2 Evaluations

The Sophomore ID Camp took place during the same time as the Freshman Showcase in Marietta, GA. All 4 courts were packed with talent at Next Play 360. Each of the athletes whether they were rising sophomores or freshman, they bought it every time they stepped on the court. We got a glimpse of the talent in the gym in the 3 vs 3 games and knew we would be in for a treat for the 5 vs 5 games. I had the opportunity to evaluate Team 2 at the Sophomore ID Camp.    Watkins was the point guard that controlled the flow of the game for her team. Team 2 was loaded with point guards and Watkins stood out. She protects the ball and knows how to thread the needle with her passes. Has the ability to put pressure on the defense with her ability to get downhill and finish in the paint. High motor and IQ which allowed her to be a coach on the floor.     Mathis is a true point guard that knows time to score and time to pass. Always looking to be under control but knows how to push in transition which creates some easy scoring opportunities for herself and her teammates. A player that gets better as the game goes along but can score from all 3 levels on the floor.     Kendrix is a player that knows how to handle the ball in traffic and transition. Always keeping her dribble low and staying in attack mode. Her ability to get to the rim and finish is what stood out most throughout the day. She has the speed and intangibles to score at any given time but loves making the extra pass.     Drinkwater was one of the true work horses on the day. The player that knows her role and does it well. Her 5"9 frame allows her the ability to get deflections and turnovers which led her team to scoring opportunities. Knows how to rebound on both ends of the floor. A player who brings the energy every possession down the floor.     Lawson is a knock down shooter but showed her ability to hit the mid-range jump shot as well as get to the basket. Once her feet are set and she has positioning she won't miss much from behind the arc. A player whose length allows her the ability to shoot over her defenders and get her shot off quickly. One of the top shooters on the day.     Smith led most of the day as the leading scoring for Team 2. Her ability to finish at the rim and knock down the 3 ball left most defenders in awe trying to figure out how to stop her. A player that can do it all on both ends of the floor and you can tell her knowledge of the game. Rips the ball well off the kick which lets her to get downhill and punch the gaps. Tough to keep her out the paint and when you take the drive away, she can shoot it well.     Lloyd is a player that continues to get better each time you see her. A player with great size and length that allows her to play both guard and post spots. She is strong with the ball in her hands which allows her to bang around the rim and finish through the contact. Rebounds well on both ends of the floor and is always chinning the rebound to protect it from the defense. Has the ability to take over the game at any given moment. A player on a lot of Preseason watchlists.     Hopkins was strong and dominate inside the paint. A player with size and strength that makes it tough for her to be stopped once she gets her positioning. Always running the floor and finding a body to pin her defender. Great footwork which allows her to face up, drop step or spin back left or right to score. She showed her ability to bring a double double in points and rebounds every time she steps on the floor.     Trotman is a High IQ guard that has the ability to score when needed. Knows how to read the defense and has great court awareness. One of the players who doesn't mind applying pressure the full length of the court and letting her defense fuel her offense. Finishes strong around the rim and has the ability to shoot the outside shot.
