The grassroots season for me is over, and I'm shifting my attention towards the 2026-27 WIAA Girls Basketball Season. I haven't had much time to look at the new sectionals over the past month, so as I start previewing sectionals, I will be taking a deep dive into each field for the first time. That said, let's look at the fields in each division and sectional for this upcoming season. After we finish up previewing each sectional, I'll make my predictions in each division.

Regis

After a wild offseason, Regis should still have the talent to make a deep run this coming postseason. Some graduations and transfers will make this group look different than a year ago, but they have the backcourt to create problems for any defense. [player_tooltip player_id='751257' first='EllaMay' last='Cooper'] is arguably the most dynamic lead guard off the dribble and can beat any defender she lines up against. I still think the pairing she has with [player_tooltip player_id='1241412' first='Gemma' last='Gardow'] could help take this team to another level now that they have a year of experience playing against each other.

Contenders

Cameron

The Comets have a young backcourt who made some waves last season in Northwest Wisconsin. [player_tooltip player_id='1241669' first='Aggie' last='Schmidt'] came in last season as a newcomer and was the most impactful player for Cameron. Her athleticism impacted the game on both ends of the floor and should be a game-changer this winter. The Comets also return Bridgette Mohns, [player_tooltip player_id='1045915' first='Bailey' last='Olson'], and Inez Schmidt, who were the next three leading scorers for this program last winter.

Eleva-Strum

The reigning D5 runner-ups have been elevated to D4 due to their enrollment. [player_tooltip player_id='751245' first='Avery' last='Glenz'] is the engine of this program and will have the ball in her hands a lot this winter. The Cardinals are also bringing back their next four leading scorers in Maddea Brown, Avery Spangeberg, Avaya Zwiefelhofer, and Brinley Bauer, who all have experience of winning postseason games and playing at the Resch Center. Even playing in D4, this is a program that could make a deep run in this sectional.

Dark Horses

McDonell Central Catholic

The Macks don't have the scholarship talent they have had in the past, but they always seem to be a competitive program in their conference. McDonell was a 20-win team last season and was good enough to compete against programs near the top of the conference, and it's hard to bet against their history of doing that.
