The grassroots season for me is over, and I'm shifting my attention towards the 2026-27 WIAA Girls Basketball Season. I haven't had much time to look at the new sectionals over the past month, so as I start previewing sectionals, I will be taking a deep dive into each field for the first time. That said, let's look at the fields in each division and sectional for this upcoming season. After we finish up previewing each sectional, I'll make my predictions in each division.

Lomira

The Lions were a young group last winter and found a way to break through in this sectional and play at the Resch Center. However, the Lions will have something this season that they didn't a year ago: experience. The rising junior trio of [player_tooltip player_id='992499' first='Josie' last='Christian'], Kennedy Goebel, and Lily Christian were nearly the entire offense for Lomira last season, and that probably won't change much. Now that they have the experience of winning at a high level, this group should find another gear this winter.

Contenders

Poynette

The Pumas will need some players to step up in their backcourt if they're going to get past the teams in this sectional. However, having [player_tooltip player_id='751244' first='Avalyn' last='Albrecht'] will always give this team a fighting chance. Her ability to put the ball on the floor and open the floor to help her teammates get open looks could be valuable for this team.

Kohler

The Blue Bombers are led by rising junior [player_tooltip player_id='1134483' first='Gwenn' last='Elliott'], who does a little of everything for this team and will be the primary ball handler each time she steps on the floor. Elliott came into her own last season and was a reliable offensive source who could create off the dribble and break down defenses. She sees the floor well and has a knack for being in the right place to make plays defensively. I like how this team plays as a unit and think they could surprise people this season.

Dark Horses

Living Word Lutheran

The Timberwolves will be one of the best teams in the Midwest Classic Conference again. They will be led by the Raymond sisters, [player_tooltip player_id='751256' first='Elaina' last='Raymond'] and Eden Raymond, who are athletic kids who can make plays on both sides of the ball. Everything they do on both ends of the floor will require them to be impactful, and I think they're ready for that responsibility. It will be different for them, but they should be competitive again.
