The grassroots season for me is over, and I'm shifting my attention towards the 2026-27 WIAA Girls Basketball Season. I haven't had much time to look at the new sectionals over the past month, so as I start previewing sectionals, I will be taking a deep dive into each field for the first time. That said, let's look at the fields in each division and sectional for this upcoming season. After we finish up previewing each sectional, I'll make my predictions in each division.

Favorites

Milwaukee Academy of Science

The Lady Novas have one of the most experienced and talented backcourts with [player_tooltip player_id='882114' first='Ariell' last='Allen'] and [player_tooltip player_id='743735' first='Kourtlyn' last='Guy']. Those two players complement each other well and have faced some of the top talent in the state over the last four seasons. Milwaukee Academy of Science is also a unique program because they don't play in a conference. In turn, their schedule will be as intriguing as anyone's around the state and will be battle-tested once we get to February, and potentially March. The Lady Novas fell short against Kettle Moraine Lutheran in this sectional last year, but without the Chargers in this sectional, they have a chance to reach the Resch Center for the first time since 2023.

Contenders

Dominican

The Knights will have one of the youngest rotations in the state, and could have three newcomers and a sophomore on the floor at any time. Dominican has the talent to compete with anyone in this sectional, and all their kids play with an edge, which will help them play against kids two or three years older. Jordyn Woodsw will play a crucial role for this group, and the determining factor for how good this group could be is how well the younger talent develops throughout the season.

Sheboygan Falls

The Falcons bring back three of their four leading scorers from last season, including [player_tooltip player_id='1153935' first='Mollie' last='Schliewe'], who led this team in scoring. Schliewe's younger sister will also enter the high school ranks this season, and should be a player who earns a role early on and helps this team compete within their conference and beyond.

Dark Horses

Winnebago Lutheran

The Vikings will be a tough matchup because of their post, [player_tooltip player_id='1877738' first='Jill' last='Pinno'], who is the one player with the physical tools to overwhelm anyone around the basket. Her skill set around the rim will force anyone who matches up with Winnebago Lutheran to send extra bodies to the basket.
