SG Underclassmen Ready To Shine

As teams across Arkansas prepare for another season, a talented group of young shooting guards is ready to step into the spotlight. This group features players who can stretch the floor, create their own offense, attack the basket, and contribute on the defensive end. Some are stepping into larger roles, while others are entering new situations that could give them even more opportunities to showcase their abilities. Here's a look at some of the underclassmen shooting guards to watch heading into the upcoming season.    [player_tooltip player_id='1249857' first='Hailey' last='Trader'], a 5'10” guard from Bentonville West in the 2029 class, enters the season as an All-State and All-Conference selection with the size and versatility to make an impact on multiple levels. Trader is a strong ball handler who can create opportunities for herself and others, while her ability to score at multiple levels makes her a difficult matchup. She put together a strong performance against Springdale, finishing with 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. With her combination of size, scoring ability, and ball-handling skills, Trader is a player to watch in the 2029 class as she continues to develop her game.     Bryant's Baileigh Walker is a 5'7” shooting guard in the 2029 class who could see her role grow significantly this season. A reliable perimeter threat, Walker has shown she can knock down shots in catch-and-shoot situations and has already put together several strong performances from beyond the arc, connecting on three 3-pointers against Vilonia, Lakeside, and North Little Rock. While she was more of a role player last season, Walker is expected to take on more responsibility this year. Her game goes beyond her shooting, as she is a tough competitor who can attack the basket and finish through contact. That same physicality carries over defensively, where she plays with a high level of intensity and effort. With an expanded role ahead, Walker has the opportunity to become an important piece for Bryant this season.     After making an impact as a freshman at CAC, [player_tooltip player_id='1318292' first='Paige' last='Hart'] will bring her talents to Sylvan Hills for the upcoming season. The 5'7” guard plays with speed and athleticism, allowing her to push the pace and make plays in transition. Hart has also shown consistency from beyond the arc, giving her another way to impact the game offensively. One of her standout performances came against Morrilton, where she finished with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals. With her ability to play fast, knock down shots, and create plays on both ends of the floor, Hart is a new addition to watch at Sylvan Hills this season.     Addyson Grimmet will be entering her first season at Poyen after transferring from Sheridan, bringing another scoring option to a team that already has a proven offensive threat in [player_tooltip player_id='952547' first='Kenady' last='Barrett']. At 5'4”, the 2029 shooting guard excels at creating her own offense, particularly with her pull-up game in the midrange. With opposing defenses likely to focus much of their attention on Barrett, Grimmet should have plenty of opportunities to attack open space and make teams pay for shifting their focus. She also brings playmaking ability to the backcourt, showing a strong feel for when to create for herself and when to get her teammates involved. Grimmet showed her two-way impact against White Hall, finishing with 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 steals. Her scoring ability and decision-making could make her a valuable addition to Poyen this season. Sharp is a strong ball handler who does a good job getting downhill and using her size and strength to finish over defenders around the basket. She also has a reliable midrange jumper that gives her another way to score when defenses take away her driving lanes. Sharp has already put together several standout performances, including 20 points and 4 rebounds against Washington Jr. and 19 points, 5 steals, and 4 rebounds against Fayetteville Jr. High. With her ability to handle the ball, attack the basket, and score from the midrange, Sharp has the tools to be an impactful young guard for Bentonville West.
