FL Sophomore ID Camp: Team 3 Assessment

The PGH Florida Sophomore ID Camp brought together a strong group of Class of 2029 prospects Sunday afternoon at Seminole Sports Academy in Longwood. Running from 3-7 p.m., the event gave sophomores from across Florida an opportunity to compete against one another and showcase their games in front of evaluators with college coaches leading the instructing.   With the Class of 2029 beginning to establish itself as one of the state's deeper classes with over 100 attendees present, the camp provided a valuable look at players making their mark early in their high school careers to see how they stack up. The afternoon featured competitive 3v3 action before transitioning into 5v5 play, giving players opportunities to display their individual skills, decision-making, versatility, and ability to impact winning on both ends of the floor. Here's a review of Team 3 who had strong guard play:    Faith was shifty with the ball and a constant threat all showcase long. She read cutters well and consistently found open shooters with well-timed passes. She used her handle and change of speed to get downhill and drew fouls and finished craftily at the rim. Faith also knocked down a tough pull-up mid-range jumper and got into the paint for a runner. On defense, she locked up her matchup and applied full-court pressure that forced numerous turnovers. She made winning plays throughout the game I wacthed and was one of the most impactful players on the floor.     Sammy was a knockdown shooter who connected from deep range on multiple occasions, and even had an early assist that opened the scoring for her team. She used her length to contest and alter shots and to disrupt passing lanes. As the tallest player on her team, she took the opening jump ball and did the heavy lifting on the boards since her supporting cast was smaller.     Aaliyah was a poised, under-control ball handler who attacked downhill with real purpose. She finished a baseline drive through contact for an and-one, showed a good change of pace to keep defenders off balance, and delivered a sharp bounce pass through traffic to a teammate. She played with confidence and control in every phase of the game.     Giuliana played with pace and consistently pushed the tempo for her team. She was strong defensively, staying active in rotations and recovery while playing hard and physically, and she competed for every rebound as a true high-motor competitor.     Kendall brought physical, high-energy minutes and made an immediate impact by scoring four points in only about a minute of floor time. She defended bigger post players physically, jumped a passing lane for a transition score, drove the lane for a bucket, drew a foul attacking downhill, and pushed the pace after grabbing a rebound. This was my first time getting to see her in action, and I walked away impressed with her impact on her team.     Mya was efficient with her ball movement, and she scored right off rip in the game I saw. Her use of the shot fake to create advantages helped get around her defenders a few times as well. She moved well without the ball and provided solid, alert help defense throughout the game.     Gabrielle was a reliable shooter who knocked down a good rotation three and competed hard on the glass by boxing out and rebounding well. She ran the floor hard in transition on both ends and used her dribble and speed to get all the way to the bucket. Gabrielle competed hard the entirety on the court with good energy all event long.     On'ri played with active hands on defense when jumping a dead dribble to force a bad pass and a turnover. She showed good touch finishing with her left hand on a drive, and she made a heads-up play by tipping her team's missed shot above a taller defender to extend the possession that resulted in a score.
