Freshman Showcase: Team 7 Evaluations

Team 7 was one of the most dominant teams in the freshman division. The group featured a few elite-level prospects alongside several other talented players who played their roles well. From downhill attackers and aggressive rebounders to good passers, shot-makers and tough defenders, Team 7 had a little of everything. Their combined talent, versatility and unselfish play made them one of the showcase's top teams.    [player_tooltip player_id='1880481' first='Emerson' last='Polachek'] competed hard on the defensive end and showed persistence while guarding the ball. Even when an opponent initially gained an advantage, the young guard continued working to recover and remain involved in the play. She displayed a competitive attitude and took well to instruction. As her confidence and offensive skills continue to develop, Polachek will become more agressive on the floor.       [player_tooltip player_id='1812114' first='Payten' last='Boyd'] displayed good instincts on the defensive side of the floor. She played the passing lanes well and had very good anticipation to get to errant passes. Boyd kept her head up and looked to advance the ball in transition. She was also effective going coast to coast, getting into the paint and making plays. Boyd also contributed as a rebounder from the guard position. She also got to the rim using her off-hand, which was impressive. Boyd was a smart player who made the correct basketball play throughout the showcase.     Gage ran the floor well and consistently stayed involved in transition, including trailing the break and collecting an offensive rebound. Her length, speed, and physicality stood out defensively as she played tough against her matchup and battled for rebounds inside. She showed that she is willing to embrace contact and compete around the basket. Gage's effort was that of a workhorse and a player who would do anything to help her team win.     [player_tooltip player_id='1218093' first='Lucy' last='Berry'] was a physical, high-effort player who contributed in several areas. She ran the floor and worked hard to get back defensively. She played excellent help-side defense and kept getting her hands in the passing lanes to create steals and deflections. Berry pressured the ball, competed for loose possessions, and even found a teammate after diving to the floor. Berry also showed she could lead the break and demonstrated it with a crisp pass for the layup. Her toughness, cutting, and willingness to do the smaller things made her a valuable glue player for the group.     [player_tooltip player_id='1320947' first='Alyssa' last='Hardeen'] delivered a performance on both sides of the ball and showed her activity, playmaking, and finishing ability. Hardeen displayed good length, ran the floor well, and showed the versatility to bring the ball down the court herself. She handled the ball effectively during a break and delivered a nice transition pass that led directly to a layup. Her ability to contribute as both a ball handler and facilitator showed a lot of versatility in her game. On defense, she switched on the picks effectively, anticipated passes, and created steals and deflections that helped initiate the break for her team.       [player_tooltip player_id='1236887' first='Autumn' last='Shackleton'] was one of the most impactful players on the floor with her length, athleticism, and versatility. She controlled rebounds and immediately pushed the ball coast-to-coast, repeatedly attacking the basket and finishing through contact and with creativity. Shackleton also showed a soft floater and was very effective at rolling to the basket on the pick-and-roll. The young baller displayed strong hands around the rim. She ran the floor, communicated, and defended both inside and along the perimeter. She put together a very good performance and was one of the top freshmen in the building.     [player_tooltip player_id='1327031' first='Zoe' last='Bone'] was one of the top playmaking guards in the building. She shot the lights out of the ball on the perimeter. She attacked downhill, connected on pull-up jumpers, and delivered several quality passes, including an advanced left-handed feed while driving. Bone also worked effectively in the pick-and-roll and advanced the ball well in transition. Defensively, she applied pressure and helped stop opposing ball handlers. Bone was one of the top performers at the showcase. What separated her was her confidence, leadership, and maturity for such a young player.     [player_tooltip player_id='1874323' first='Varvara' last='Rodzik'] provided size, mobility, and versatility on the floor. She ran the floor well, remained active around the basket, and got to the rim on drives to the basket. Rodzik was very physical on the defensive end and came up with some impressive blocks and mixed it up on the inside with some physicality. Rodzik got out on the break and showed her ability to fill the lane, catch the ball, and score the layup in one sequence. Rodzik played well and showed she could contribute in the paint and on the perimeter.       [player_tooltip player_id='1919586' first='McKenzie' last='Haar'] was athletic, had good length, and ran the floor very well. She played aggressively on defense and was full of energy. Haar played with a workhorse mentality and had no hesitation diving on the floor for loose balls. She played team ball and moved the ball in the flow of the offense.
