Oregon Makes Strong Showing at WA Freshman Showcase

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Prep Girls Hoops event season is afoot, and Friday, August 29 was Freshman Showcase day in Auburn, Wash. The state's top incoming freshmen competed in 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 action over four hours, but a few talented Oregonians were also in the mix. She showcased her quick first step, driving left on a defender all the way to the rack for two points. She also had a sequence where she blocked a shot emphatically, rebounded the ball, and immediately threw a pass ahead on the fast break. She grabbed rebounds over bigs, and she also rebounded her own missed three and laid it back in. Despite her fast-paced game, she does not have tunnel vision — on a drive, she dumped it off to the big before relocating to the corner and receiving the ball back for a wide-open jumper, which she hit. She hit long twos (one was at the buzzer to end a 3-on-3 game) and even splashed a triple with a no-dip release in 5-on-5. She will be taller than most at her position when she steps onto a high school court for Seaside. She also grabs plenty of rebounds. White participated in Cameron Brink's Next22 camp a year ago, an event that hosts some of the state's very best middle school players. These experiences are key for her development, as they are helping her grow as a ball-handler and defender. She caught fire after she hit a jab step three in a defender's face. She followed it up by taking advantage of a gambling defender and stepping in for a pull-up jumper, and she finished things with a catch-and-shoot three. Holmes is one of the hardest workers around and lives in the gym. If she didn't, she probably wouldn't have been willing to drive seven-plus hours to compete in this event. She is a high-IQ guard who gives her all in every aspect of the game, even setting some physical screens at just 5'4. If she keeps up this trajectory, she will be a player to monitor closely in Southern Oregon.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
