Mila Rose, one of the few players representing Oregon at the Showcase, was definitely one of the top performers of the weekend. I have watched Mila over the years, and what continues to impress me is how much her game develops each year. Mila is a special player for a lot of reasons, but at the heart of it is her competitiveness. She is going to do whatever it takes to win and whatever her team needs from her. She is a fundamentally sound player who has clearly put countless hours into developing her craft.

Offensively, Mila is particularly effective at using her body to create space, bump defenders and get to the spots where she can be successful. Her pickups and Euro steps are especially effective when she gets inside, allowing her to navigate through traffic and finish around the basket. Her three-point shot has also taken a noticeable step forward. Mila is shooting with strong fundamentals and growing confidence from beyond the arc, and she is doing it at a high percentage. That continued development has made her offensive game even more difficult to defend.

Defensively, Mila is just as impactful. She is a lockdown defender who takes pride in making life difficult for whoever she is matched up against. Throughout the Showcase, I watched her consistently lock up her opponent, using strong positioning, quickness and effort to prevent them from getting comfortable. More than once, her defense directly resulted in a turnover or forced a jump ball. That ability to impact the game on both ends is a big part of what makes Mila such a complete player.

My favorite aspect of Mila’s game, however, has nothing to do with a statistic. It is how much fun she is having when she plays. It is obvious that Mila loves basketball, and she genuinely loves the camaraderie that comes with being part of a team. The joy she brings to her teammates, the sport and even the gym itself is contagious. That kind of passion is special, and it is something that can have an impact far beyond what happens between the lines and is not something you can ever teach.

Mila Rose is the type of player any high school or college program would be fortunate to have—not only because of her developing skill set and competitive drive, but because of the energy, joy and love for the game she brings with her every time she steps on the court.

Rose is a tenacious combo guard who relishes the opportunity to compete, and she made the most of it in Auburn. She showcased her quick first step, driving left on a defender all the way to the rack for two points. She also had a sequence where she blocked a shot emphatically, rebounded the ball, and immediately threw a pass ahead on the fast break. She grabbed rebounds over bigs, and she also rebounded her own missed three and laid it back in. Despite her fast-paced game, she does not have tunnel vision — on a drive, she dumped it off to the big before relocating to the corner and receiving the ball back for a wide-open jumper, which she hit. She does all the little things that will help her get on the floor quickly on a stacked Tualatin team that includes fellow freshmen Taylor Nash Taylor Nash 5'10" | SG/SF Tualatin | 2030 OR and Kya McCrae Kya McCrae CG/PG Tualatin | 2030 OR .

Mila Rose was one of just three Oregon players to make the trip to the WA Freshman Showcase, and she made her presence felt across both states as one of the weekend’s top performers. Mila has an impressive ability to get downhill, using pickups and Euro steps effectively to navigate her way to the rim. She can also stretch the floor with a strong three-point shot and plays an unselfish, team-oriented style of basketball.

Mila is a natural scorer who can get hot quickly and completely change the pace and outcome of a game. She does an excellent job using her body to create space, bump defenders and get to her spots, while finishing well around the basket. Mila is definitely one to watch in Oregon’s 2030 class, and I look forward to following her high school career this season.
