Fall is finally here and that means one thing for the month of September; the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase. This year's event, which was held at Maple Grove Middle School on Sunday, featured more than 90 players from around Minnesota. With this being one of the deepest classes we've scouted in recent years, the level of play was outstanding and many players made their case for a spot in the upcoming Freshman 50, our initial ranking of the 2030 class that will be coming out in a few weeks. As for this week, we'll be releasing our evaluations of most of the players who were in the gym on Sunday, one team at a time. Here are the highlights from Team 1, part 1.

Relatively unknown heading into the AAU season, Walker's recruiting profile has increased dramatically since we first wrote about her back in May. At the Freshman Showcase on Sunday, she demonstrated exactly why. On top of her high-level athleticism and innate feel for the game, Hadley (pictured above) showed her ability to impact the game in a wide variety of ways. The 5'11 guard used her length to create disruptions and alter shots on defense, crashed the glass on offense for well-timed put back buckets, and consistently made hustle plays that resulted in extra possessions for her team. Proctor will be the team to see this winter, and Walker is taking no small part in that.

After watching her give big performances for [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan'] all summer, it wasn't much of a surprise to see Schultz put on a show at Sunday's event. That didn't make it any less enjoyable to watch, though! All throughout the Freshman Showcase, the Delano freshman made high-IQ defensive plays, scored crafty buckets at the rim, and threw dazzling backdoor passes that produced an audible gasp from spectators on the sidelines. For many players, a 5'6 stature and a small frame would be a disadvantage in the game of basketball. But for Kali, whose speed and skill level are off the charts, those things don't even seem to matter.

Coming from Mountain Lake, which has an enrollment of just 123 students, we were eager to see how Schroeder would fare against elite-level players from around the state. After taking some time to adjust to the pace of play, the 5'8 guard found her stride and didn't let up. Mikaya made explosive left-hand drives to the basket, elevated over defenders for rebounds and open looks at the rim, and made some beautiful passes in transition. On each possession, it was Schroeder's effortless athleticism, natural ability to read and react, and consistent work ethic that made her stand out. What's more, the [program_tooltip program_id='712699' first='Minnesota' last='Rise'] standout is just scratching the surface of her full potential.

Ronning's energy and effort on both ends of the floor were in no short supply at Sunday's Freshman Showcase. Standing at just 5'2, the Coon Rapids guard was definitely one of the smallest players on the court, but Madison took advantage of her quickness, ability to handle the ball under pressure, and consistent perimeter shot. After working her way into the Cardinals varsity rotation as an 8th grader, we're expecting to see Ronning step up and take on a bigger role at the point guard spot in the upcoming high school season.
