PGH Freshman Showcase: Team 2 evaluations, part 2

Fall is finally here and that means one thing for the month of September: the Prep Girls Hoops Freshman Showcase. This year's event, which was held at Maple Grove Middle School on Sunday, featured more than 90 players from around Minnesota. With this being one of the deepest classes we've scouted in recent years, the level of play was outstanding and many players made their case for a spot in the upcoming Freshman 50, our initial ranking of the 2030 class that will be coming out in a few weeks. As for this week, we'll be releasing our evaluations on most of the players who were in the gym on Sunday, one team at a time. Here are the highlights from Team 2, part 2.    Streed's performance was one of the many highlights of the Freshman Showcase. From catch-and-shoot threes and explosive layups in transition to crafty drives to the rim and turnaround jumpers in the midrange, the 5'9 guard (pictured above) seemed to score in every possible way, all without forcing anything or taking a bad shot in the process. Brielle's basketball IQ translated on the defensive end, too. Bringing her athleticism and relentless work ethic on each possession, she played smart, fundamentally sound defense all afternoon. With a young core leading the way at Alexandria this season, Streed is more than capable of making an impact for the Cardinals in her freshman campaign.     Travelling from Wahpeton, North Dakota to play in the Freshman Showcase, Nelson made her presence known early on Sunday. The 5'7 guard's confident handle on the ball and lights-out shooting from the perimeter jumped out at us immediately during the 3-on-3 competition. Later, during 5-on-5, Piper continued to impress with her aggressive defense and a significant burst of speed that allowed her to get past defenders with ease on drives to the basket. With a consistent motor and a self-assured attitude each time she steps on the floor, Nelson has the tools needed to succeed at the collegiate level.     Miller had a strong summer with [program_tooltip program_id='712722' first='North' last='Tartan']'s 14U Elite team, so it didn't come as much of a surprise to see her perform well at Sunday's showcase. The 5'11 power forward approached every possession with a high degree of effort and intensity, using her strength and athleticism to her advantage at every opportunity. Bentley was active on the glass, defended much larger players with ease, and showcased some significant versatility in her scoring. Her ability to stretch the floor came in handy for her team too. After making her way into Mounds View's varsity rotation as an 8th grader, we expect that Miller will be a key contributor for the Mustangs this winter.     The Freshman Showcase was our first opportunity to see Pallansch in action. Standing at 6-foot-1, the Royalton freshman is a true post player with plenty of size and strength. While she wasn't necessarily the quickest player in the gym, Megan has plenty of tools to work with. On offense she showcased a nice post seal on the block, steady hands, and an innate ability for recognizing double teams and quickly getting the ball to an open teammate. On the defensive side, the [program_tooltip program_id='767539' first='Minnesota' last='Comets'] post provided a physical presence down low, playing aggressive defense as she worked to keep her opponents out of the paint.
