Expert Analysis

Piper was tremendous at camp. She showed off why she was selected to the All-Region 1 team as just an 8th grader. She has All-State selections in her near future. She is a straight bucket. Nelson’s first step is very impressive and allows her to blow by most defenders. She was dominant during the 1-on-1 portion of camp. She displayed many creative ways of getting to the basket and finishing over other girls. She showed off her outside shooting once they got into 5-on-5. She can let it fly as soon as she crosses the half-line and has a super quick release. She was able to use her speed to get up the court and score in transition. I was really impressed with Piper.

Piper the sniper (give me credit when this nickname catches on!), set the school record for most made three-pointers this season with 54. She shot the deep ball at 32%, a respectable number for a young high school player. I anticipate her shooting percentage will increase as she grows throughout high school. Shooting the three isn’t all Piper can do. She is Wahpeton’s primary ball-handler and is good off the bounce. She is a good athlete and competes hard. The All-Region selection averaged 14.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.1 steals per game this season.

Piper is a stud and is playing some terrific basketball. She should be a lock for an All-Region selection this season in a very talented Region 1. She has been lighting up the box scores. Nearly every box score I see shows Piper scoring in double-figures. She is a true three-level scorer. She gets to the basket with a quick first step, can hit the mid-range jumper, and can stretch the floor from deep. She keeps getting better at playing with pace and confidence. She is going to be an excellent college prospect.

Piper started all season last year on the varsity for Wahpeton. She has the tools to be an all-time great Huskie. She is super quick and athletic with a frame that will gain strength as she gets older. She has a really quick release and isn’t afraid to shoot it from deep. Her percentages will improve with age. She is ultra competitive and someone who could be a four or five-time All-Region player.
