PGH Wisconsin Freshman Showcase Team 2 Evaluations: Part One

Another PGH Wisconsin Freshman Showcase is in the books. Around 90 players made the journey to the Champions Center for the event, and there were plenty of notable players to highlight. We will look at the 5v5 teams and discuss what each player brought to the table when I saw them play. There will be a few players I'll highlight later due to number changes and to be sure I know who I took notes on. That said, let's look at some of the players from Team Two who impressed yesterday.    One of the things I feel that gets lost on the defensive end of the floor is staying focused while defending away from the ball, and I felt Scholz did that well. She read the game well and was able to help make plays on that end without needing to pick up her assignment up the floor. She doesn't bring a ton of flair to either end of the floor, but she can handle the ball and help her team run their offense.     The Waukesha native was comfortable playing off the ball offensively and took her opportunities when they came her way. She's a solid athlete and ran the floor well in transition to help her team get some fast-break points or make plays getting back defensivley. I also thought she could play through contact around the basket, and she had one finish in the paint that caught my attention.     The Appleton native is a smaller guard, but did well finding ways to make plays with the ball in her hands. She plays with an edge and isn't afraid of contact on either end. She has the competitiveness to improve and find her way into the rotation at East at some point, and will be pushed by an experienced group of players there for the next few years. She's a scrappy kid who could be an intriguing name to follow the next four years.     The Northeast Wisconsin native won't be the most physically imposing guard anytime she steps on the floor. However, she isn't afraid of anything when she's on the floor. Bush did a solid job handling pressure as a lead guard and played through contact well. I also thought that she can improve over the next four years and take her game to another level.     The lefty from Wrightstown took me by surprise in Appleton. She does an excellent job getting to the basket and finishing around the rim. Bosma isn't a physically imposing lead guard and is slightly undersized, but she plays with some power around the rim. She got to the free-throw line a few times in the 5v5 game I watched her play, and she created routinely at the point of attack. I thought she defended well, and she even has some room to grow on that end of the floor. She competes and will get used to the speed of varsity basketball once she earns a role at that level.
