Just in time for Halloween, the inaugural 2030 watchlist just posted on Prep Girls Hoops Indiana. Typically, I like to have this completed sometime in mid to late June, and at the latest, sometime immediately after our PGH Freshman Showcase in September. But this year, I found it very difficult to put together as comprehensive and thorough of a list as I feel we've released today. Why? Well, when I looked through this class during the Spring and Summer, and I sat back this Fall and considered what I saw, it is talented and deep both, but there is a divide...at least for now. I always wanted to initially get 40 to 50 names out there, and 50 is what we landed on, but that in itself was a project. In my honest opinion, I felt like there were a dozen, maybe 15 "easy' selections based on their play, potential, and recruitment, so the class is strong at the top. In many years, there can be a major dropoff from player #5 to player #15. In this case, I didn't so much feel that way, as there are about 75 girls who were "competing" to fill about 35 to 38 spots within the watchlist. That "dropoff" I mentioned is much farther down the list. That's what made this so difficult. Did I miss someone? Oh, I'm sure I did. But we will continue to monitor the class as they start their high school careers next week and reissue an updated watchlist sometime shortly after Christmas Break. At that time, we will also expand and attempt to make the list even more valid, addressing those we might have omitted. In the meantime, please give the ladies who did make it the credit they deserve for all of their hard work.

I had the opportunity to see Maya for the first time in July, and she is yet another nice athlete in the Warren Central system. She has some length, a wiry-strong frame, and she runs and jumps with just about anyone in this class. She's a little undersized for how she plays right now, because she likes to battle inside for rebounds, put-backs, and hustle points, but she has enough athletic talent to develop into a pure wing. She is also a very good, effortful defender who can take on most guards, wings, and different types of frontcourt players.

Bailey seems to be continuing a trend at Culver Academy of ladies from Tennessee enrolling and making an immediate impact, joining top 2029 prospect [player_tooltip player_id='1050683' first='Laine' last='Lyles']. Bailey is a strong/powerful, physical, and assertive interior player who loves to create contact and "bully" her way inside. She will often collect more rebounds than score points for her teams. She has broad shoulders, she absorbs contact well also, and she plays with a nice motor. As she continues to build her skillset away from the basket, she can be a real problem.

I first saw Lola at our PGH Indiana Freshman Showcase back in September, and she is a very intriguing hybrid forward who can play at all three levels. She has really nice length, a wiry-strong frame that should get stronger but still has room to grow, and she's a fairly fluid athlete in most directions. She was able to occasionally handle it in transition and initiate the offense, but she also did a nice job of using her height/length and playing "over" most defenders inside. I think she has the potential to become a full-time wing for the next level, though.

Kyleah is another one of those physical, strong, tough-nosed interior players who loves to create contact. She has broad shoulders, good power, and the right attitude to carve out space inside, and against her peers at least, she's able to effectively push her way around inside and finish, defend, and rebound. How that translates to the Varsity level at 5-10 will be seen soon enough, but she does have solid all-around athleticism and will likely continue to build her skillset away from the basket. If she can become an outside threat, watch out!
