There are plenty of ways to make an impact around the basket, and several players at the Headliners Invitational showed just how valuable a strong inside presence can be. Whether it was battling for rebounds, creating second-chance opportunities, establishing position or finding different ways to finish in the paint, these players made their contributions felt. What I liked about this group was that they weren't all traditional post players. Some brought the ability to stretch the floor or attack off the dribble while still making things happen inside. Here are five players from Team Liberty and Team Fever who caught my attention with their work around the basket.

Selia made good use of her opportunities around the rim at the Headliners Invitational, particularly when it came to creating extra possessions for Team Liberty. She was willing to battle for position on the offensive glass and came away with multiple rebounds that she turned into putback baskets. I liked how she stayed involved in plays and continued working toward the basketball even when the initial shot didn't fall. Selia also showed some nice footwork in the paint, allowing her to get into good finishing positions. She displayed good hands when receiving a pass out of the pick-and-roll, something that is important for a player working around the basket. Her ability to run the floor and get into scoring position was another positive, and she also showed she could put the ball on the floor with a nice slash and finish at the rim.

Ally showed that making an impact around the basket isn't limited to traditional post players at the Headliners Invitational. Despite being a guard, she consistently found ways to create opportunities in the paint with her ability to attack defenders and finish at the rim. One of the things I liked about her game was how quickly she could make a move and get past her defender. She had a strong rip-through from the free-throw line that allowed her to get downhill, along with a nice baseline attack. Ally also showed some creativity with her finishing, converting a reverse layup during 3v3 competition. She was effective when running the floor, getting into position for a transition bucket, and she made her presence felt on the offensive glass with a rebound and putback. Her ability to finish around the rim, create opportunities off the dribble and contribute on the boards showed that guards can be just as effective making plays inside.

Chloe's contributions at the Headliners Invitational came from her willingness to do the work around the basket on both ends of the floor. She was particularly effective on the glass, using her strength to secure defensive rebounds and help Team Fever finish possessions. On the offensive end, she stayed active around the rim, collecting multiple offensive boards and converting a couple of putbacks. Those second-chance opportunities were an important part of what she brought to the floor. I also liked her approach to defending in the post. Chloe did a nice job walling up against opponents, staying solid defensively and making them work for their opportunities inside. While some players make their biggest impact with scoring moves, Chloe showed the value of rebounding, positioning and providing a dependable presence in the paint.

Maggie brought an interesting combination of length and offensive versatility to Team Fever at the Headliners Invitational. Around the basket, she showed the ability to establish good position by sealing her defender and making herself available for an entry pass. She also demonstrated good hands when catching the basketball in traffic and the ability to finish with defenders around her. What I liked was that Maggie didn't have to rely solely on getting the ball in the post to make something happen inside. She showed she could attack from the free-throw line and get downhill, while another strong baseline drive drew two defenders and resulted in a nice kick-out pass. Her ability to make plays in the paint while also knocking down perimeter shots gave defenders several things to consider when matching up against her.

Gwen is an intriguing inside-out prospect who showed several encouraging skills at the Headliners Invitational. Her length allows her to be a factor around the basket, but what caught my attention was her ability to recognize what the defense was giving her. On one possession, she did a nice job sealing her defender and receiving the basketball inside. When the defense sent a second player to help, Gwen didn't force a shot. Instead, she recognized the double team and kicked the ball out to an open shooter. That type of decision-making is valuable for a player who can operate in the paint. Gwen also displayed a soft touch with multiple floaters and showed she could contribute on the defensive glass. Her ability to secure rebounds, push the basketball in transition and knock down outside shots adds another dimension to her game, making her a versatile prospect worth following.
