Hey Prep Girls Hoops Nation! I am back and incredibly excited for the fall-winter season of women's basketball. It has been a minute since my last article; as we all know, life happens. Just as my organization was wrapping up the final stages of our fall season, I caught a nasty cold that completely knocked me out. Because of that, these write-ups are definitely overdue, but I still wanted to make sure these young ladies get the well-deserved credit they earned for their excellent play on the court.

Back in early October, I had the privilege of attending a phenomenal showcase sponsored by The Incoming Women's Basketball Network. For those unfamiliar, it is a premier girls' grassroots exposure and digital media platform that provides high school student-athletes with opportunities to gain exposure and compete for collegiate-level scholarships. By hosting competitive tournaments, providing digital broadcasting, and matching up high-level talent, they do an incredible job helping athletes gain the exposure that they need to advance their careers. Six competitive programs took the floor: Shoemaker, La Vega, University, Carter, Lake Belton, and Waco High.

The first article focuses on the best performances by student-athletes in the tournament. The players are [player_tooltip player_id='1381732' first='Jalaiya' last='Johnson'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1884718' first='Alexis' last='Robinson'] (Shoemaker), [player_tooltip player_id='1539053' first='Rubianna' last='Jones'] (University), [player_tooltip player_id='1965698' first='Gemma' last='Pierce'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1965702' first='Hayden' last='Maroney'] (Lake Belton).

[player_tooltip player_id='1381732' first='Jalaiya' last='Johnson'] is the engine that drives the Shoemaker's Lady Grey Wolves basketball team to obtain excellence because whenever she is on the court, the energy rises to another level. She has elite court vision and physical poise, allowing her to dissect full-court pressure and break defensive presses with ease. Johnson is dangerous in transition, showcasing a beautiful coast-to-coast game that routinely forces defenses to collapse in the paint because they don't know what she'll do next.

Aside from her ability to attack the rim, Johnson stretches the floor effectively with a reliable perimeter game, proving she can knock down the three-pointer and pull up for midrange jumpers. She routinely dove on the floor for loose balls, fought for rebounds, and absorbed physical contact as she drove to the basket on several occasions to earn tough "And-1" buckets in the paint. During the tournament, she proved she is a clutch performer who consistently steps up to generate scoring opportunities for herself or her teammates.

Jalaiya already holds a collegiate scholarship offer, and it is easy to see why she will likely earn several more by the end of this winter season. Jalaiya is different, and she sets a fierce tone for the Lady Grey Wolves on both ends of the floor through pure hustle and an undeniable passion for the game. Combined with a high-level basketball IQ and excellent court vision, she possesses the skill set required to run the point effectively at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1884718' first='Alexis' last='Robinson'] is an under-the-radar student-athlete with the physical and mental abilities to play at the collegiate level. Her game isn't loud or flashy, but she gets the job done on both ends of the floor. While evaluating her, I wondered why she doesn't have a list of official offers yet, but a conversation with her family revealed something that gave me a whole new level of respect for her.

Her parents told me there is collegiate interest; the schools currently contacting them don't offer the specific academic major she wants to pursue. Robinson is intentionally putting her education first. She has a mature perspective: if the right academic and athletic fit aligns, she will gladly compete at the next level; if not, she is content knowing she gave the game her all and is ready to step into the next chapter of life.

Offensively, she is a three-level scorer who can drive to the basket, pull up for tough midrange jumpers, or step behind the arc to knock down three-pointers. Her basketball IQ and on-court vision also give her the versatility to step up and run the point whenever her team needs it. Defensively, she embodies that signature Lady Grey Wolves grit, showing great hustle as she fights hard for defensive boards and plays fierce defense. In closing, I hope everything falls into place, and this outstanding student-athlete continues to play basketball while majoring in the degree of her choice at the next level.

.

[player_tooltip player_id='1539053' first='Rubianna' last='Jones'] is a highly versatile combo guard who displayed talent, a burst of energy, skill, and grace throughout the entire tournament. Waco has several great players, and I am not taking anything away from any of them, but when [player_tooltip player_id='1539053' first='Rubianna' last='Jones'] plays her best every game with confidence, she is the best player in Waco. Rubi is a three-level scorer who can shoot the ball from anywhere on the court, and she has a natural ability to create space and keep defenders off balance.

Her flexibility lets her move seamlessly between positions, giving the Trojans valuable court depth and reliable perimeter ball-handling whenever her team needs to shift tempo. Literally, Rubi can play all five positions on the court. Defensively, she is just as good, and her skill to rebound and start the break was off the charts. As she gains varsity experience and refines her transition scoring, Jones has the tools to develop into a prominent threat for the Lady Trojans and the best player in Waco over the next few seasons. Rubi Jones can absolutely play at the collegiate level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1965702' first='Hayden' last='Maroney'] is the go-to option for Lake Belton in the post during the tournament, combining power with strong interior moves to score at will. She plays a highly disciplined, effective game down low, showing a great ability to battle for deep position and finish comfortably inside the paint. What makes her tough to guard is that she matches her physical post-up scoring with great vision out of the block, flashing the basketball IQ to spot-cutting teammates for easy assists when the defense collapses on her. On the other end of the floor, she sat down and put in a solid defensive performance, proving she can comfortably hold her own.

[player_tooltip player_id='1965698' first='Gemma' last='Pierce'] put together a spectacular three-game tournament performance. She is a highly impactful combo guard who can take over a game. When her team was down, she single-handedly brought them back. Offensively, she is a dangerous threat who can drain the deep three-pointer, drive hard to get fouled, and finish tough plays near the basket. She plays with a great feel for the floor, using her driving ability to deliver crisp passes to open teammates. On defense, she uses quick hands to pick pockets for clean steals and instantly push the ball in transition.
