With the team previews complete, I'm going back through my notes from The Expo and taking a closer look at players who made an impact in different areas of the game. Defense showed up in plenty of ways throughout the day, from protecting the rim and jumping passing lanes to applying pressure on the ball and making the hustle plays that can change a possession. Several players found ways to make things difficult for their opponents and create opportunities for their teams on the other end. Here's a closer look at five players who made their presence felt defensively at The Expo.

Raquel made a major impact on the defensive end at The Expo, using her athleticism and timing to provide a strong presence around the basket. She came up with several blocks throughout the day, showing the ability to challenge shots and make opponents think twice when attacking the rim. What made her defensive performance even more impressive was how consistently she was able to make those plays while staying involved in other areas of the game. Raquel's athleticism allows her to cover ground quickly and put herself in position to affect shots, giving her team another layer of protection defensively. Her ability to make plays around the rim was a big part of an impressive overall showing at The Expo.

Addison made her presence felt defensively at The Expo with her ability to challenge shots from different areas of the floor. She showed good timing as a shot blocker, coming up with several blocks around the basket while also making a big defensive play out on the perimeter. Her ability to affect shots both inside and away from the rim gave her team some valuable versatility on that end of the floor. Addison stayed active throughout possessions and used her length well to make scoring opportunities more difficult for opponents. Her shot-blocking was one of the defensive pieces that caught my attention, and the ability to make those plays in different areas of the court made her an easy player to include among the defenders who made their presence felt at The Expo.

Maliyah made an impact on the defensive end for Team 9 at The Expo with her activity and ability to disrupt possessions. She showed good instincts when reading the floor and used her quickness to get her hands on the basketball and create turnovers. Maliyah brought consistent effort on that end, staying involved in plays and making things difficult for opposing ball handlers. Her defensive activity also gave her team opportunities to get out and play in transition after creating turnovers. She showed that she can influence a game without needing everything to come on the offensive end, and her ability to apply pressure and make plays defensively made her a good fit among the defenders who made their presence felt at The Expo.

Zoe made her presence felt defensively at The Expo with her ability to protect the basket and make hustle plays. She came up with multiple blocks, using her timing and activity to challenge opponents around the rim and prevent easy scoring opportunities. Zoe also brought consistent effort to the floor, finding ways to stay involved in possessions and make plays that don't always show up in the scoring column. Her willingness to compete, protect the paint, and continue working through each possession gave her team valuable defensive minutes. Zoe's shot-blocking was certainly noticeable, but it was the combination of rim protection and hustle that made her defensive impact stand out to me at The Expo.

Presley used her athleticism and instincts to create problems defensively at The Expo. She did a good job reading the floor away from the ball and jumping passing lanes, coming away with steals and creating opportunities for her team in transition. Presley's ability to anticipate passes allowed her to be disruptive without constantly gambling herself out of position. Once she created a turnover, she had the athleticism and ball skills to quickly turn defense into offense. Her activity on that end complemented an impressive all-around performance, and her ability to make plays in the passing lanes was another reason she was one of the players who caught my attention during the day.
