WILLIAMSON - The Tug Valley Panthers suffered a gut-wrenching loss to end their 2025-26 season. Playing in a West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission's Class A semifinal, head coach Seth Ooten and company watched on as the St. Marys Blue Devils scored the last five points of the game, including the game-winning shot, on their way to the school's first state championship since 1990. Back for the Panthers is a deep and experienced team, a group anxious for another shot at scoring the school's first state championship since 2021. Here at the young ladies interested in furthering their basketball careers at the next level:

[player_tooltip player_id='1118531' first='Kylie' last='DeBoard'] is a weapon on the basketball court. Her scoring ability has increased over her first three years at school. She can attack the basket, shoot the three, or hit a mid-range jumper. However, she is not just a scorer. She will do whatever the team asks her to do. If she needs to slash and kick, she will slash and kick, if she sees a pick and roll opportunity, she goes for it. On defense, she is extremely opportunistic. She is the kind of player you hate to play against, but you love it when she is on your team. I can see her being a great fit for a Mountain East Conference team.

Hynd puts in the work. Over. And. Over. And. Over. Again. Basketball is her passion. She loves the game more than any other sport. She is a great combo guard. Her ability to create off the dribble with a deadly head nod combined with her mid-range game and ability to get to the rim causes a lot of problems for Class AA and A opponents, alike. She also loves to score in transition. Her speed allows her to get down court quickly where she catches the ball like a wide receiver over her shoulder before she finishes. I am excited to see what her sophomore year has in store for her.

Colgrove has already announced her arrival in a pretty huge way. In summer ball, Class A Tug Valley faced Class AAA competitors Nitro, St. Albans, East Fairmont, and Spring Valley among others, and Colegrove held her own. Against the Bees, she tallied 20+ points as a freshman. Against the Timberwolves, she drew the defensive assignment of [player_tooltip player_id='1936838' first='Bella' last='Perdue'], and she didn't back down one bit. She is going to be a very dangerous commodity for the Panthers in Class A. If she grows a little bit more, I can see her turning into a 3 at the college level.

[player_tooltip player_id='1261424' first='Katie' last='Hall'] is a talented, multi-sport athlete for the Panthers. Extremely coachable, able to out jump anyone, Hall gets it done on any playing surface. Hardwood-wise, offensively, she likes to attack from the high post. However, she is developing a drop step and can finish with both hands around the rim. Defensively, she can effectively guard girls five inches taller than her like Gilmer County graduate Ava Dobbins. If she just spent an off-season to concentrate on basketball, she can be something special. If she chooses the path of basketball, she has a very high ceiling. To all NCAA coaches, this young lady would make a great cornerstone for any program.
