Washington Patriots’ season preview

CHARLES TOWN - The Washington Patriots advanced to the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center, one year ago. Once there, the eighth-seeded Patriots were felled by the top-seeded George Washington Patriots' 65-52. Washington head coach Rashaan Edwards welcomes back much of his team that helped his squad advance to Charleston. Here are the girls who have expressed a want to play in college or who Edwards believes can play at the next level:

Oh boy! Itobi has a ton of potential. Yes. Yes. Yes. This Washington Patriot sophomore oozes athletic ability. I cannot wait to watch her game develop over the next three years. Watching her play as a freshman was certainly an eye-opening experience. Her length and athleticism are significant. She's already excellent in transition. She rebounds the ball on both ends of the floor. With the right development and hard work, I could see her development push her into Shay-Lee Kirby territory by the time she is a senior - someone who thrives as the rover in the press and someone who can score in many different ways on any given night.

Holmes has one of the traits coaches can't teach: She has a competitive drive and the will to win. All. The. Time. There is never a game where a coach needs to worry about whether she will do everything and anything necessary to win a basketball game. There is never a practice where a coach needs to worry about whether she will do everything and anything necessary to improve in practice. She will push everyone to win a game, even if it is a fall-league contest. She pushes herself and her mentality is "it is never acceptable for her to have an off game." Coach Edwards goes to battle knowing she will give 100 percent every time. She has the athleticism to back up the drive and she is a sneaky left-handed player, who plays bigger than she actually is.

Break out the Windex! Crickey! Perry cleans the boards. All. The. Time. Players and coaches will have to take into account where this young lady is when the shot goes up. She plays bigger than her size and is not afraid to battle for missed shots. Another great part of her is her leadership and maturity. A coach is going to be happy because she chose to play for them at the next level.
