College Commitment: 2020 Jordyn Jenkins (Kentridge HS)
As previously reported here, Jordyn Jenkins has committed to the University of Southern California. This was big news all across the state and country for that matter as she was down to Oklahoma, UW, Duke and California before choosing USC. Jordyn gave us some insight into her decision and how it all went down for her.
Jordyn took five visits in total and USC was the third visit for her overall. The 6’2 forward mentioned that it was her favorite visit saying, “The team was by far the best thing about the visit, we connected instantly. They are a lot like my friends I have right now.” USC did not come into the picture until later in the recruiting process, but a former assistant coach is how things got rolling initially. USC was active on the phone lines and really built up the relationships from there and the visit is what really knocked it out of the park.
When it came down to deciding which school she would attend, the relationships she had with the current players on the team was a huge factor in her final decision. In fact, she said it was the most important thing for her. “Also, the meeting with the academic adviser really opened my eyes about what my future would be like if I went to USC. I felt really comfortable walking out of that meeting that I would be taken care of going there.”
Jordyn made her announcement known to Head Coach Mark Trakh while she was in school and did so by text. “I was just so happy that I found somewhere I was comfortable and glad that I knew that I was making an important decision. I can now settle down and can focus on my senior year and last high school basketball season.”
In her final season of high school basketball, Jordyn will look to lead Kentridge to its second 4A state championship in her tenure. Do not be surprised to see her stack up some more individual hardware along the way, as well.
