This weekend, Fremd High School hosted its popular girls' high school basketball showcase again. This event brings together some of the best young basketball players from the area. This year's showcase is extra special because it's the first one since the tournament was renamed after Dave Yates, the former head basketball coach. Coach Yates passed away this summer from brain cancer. He spent countless years building a legacy in girls' basketball at Fremd and in the Chicagoland area. He spent years helping and guiding young athletes, both on and off the court. This event honors his memory. Teams, fans, college coaches and students will play in competitive games, keeping Coach Yates' love for basketball alive and inspiring others. This and subsequent articles will spotlight players who not only excelled in their performance but players who demonstrated grit, made impactful plays, and were exceptional teamwork.

Molly has to be one of the most improved players and has earned her playing time on this incredibly talented Nazareth team. She seems to get faster and more skilled every time I see her. She has speed and agility on the court. Over the past year, she's shown remarkable improvement, honing her dribbling skills and becoming a more consistent shooter.

Rightfully earning a place on the varsity team, Meehan showed why she belongs on the varsity court. She makes incredibly smart passes and uses her speed to trap players and frustrate the heck out of them. Along with disrpupting the offense, she is a consistent shooter with a super high ceiling.

Lyla has always been one of my favorite players to watch. Her court vision is unparalleled, allowing her to anticipate her teammates' movements and deliver precision passes that thread through the defense with ease. When she isn't in a position to pass, she can shoot the ball effortlessly and score from any spot on the floor.

One of the more underrated and uncommitted players in the 2025 class. She has a strong frame and incredible athleticism. The 5'11" forward is a no-nonsense player who gets out there and is always hustling. She is always communicating on the court and has a sweet shot. Plays extremely smart and clean defense.

Gracie Todd has one of the highest IQs on the court. She can do just about anything at any point in the game. Not ony can she do it, she does it well. She is a great ball handler with quick feet and a consistent shooter with a terrific outside shot. The best thing about her is that she is only going to continue to get better.
