<p>The Williamston Hornets and St. Johns Red Wings collided in a Capital Area Activities Conference Red matchup on Thursday, January 30th. Williamston (D2, 9-4) held a one-game lead in the conference over St. Johns (D2, 12-3) heading into the matchup. The Hornets won their first meeting 41-36, but St. Johns got their revenge in round two. After holding a narrow lead throughout the game, Williamston hit a pair of late 3s to tie the game at 36. A contested layup and free throw put St. Johns ahead for good as they earned a 39-36 victory. After watching the tape, these impactful players stood out from both teams.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Jocelyn barreled through a defenders chest to score a strong and-one layup, drained a deep wing 3, and converted a straightaway triple. She swiped the ball away and drove into the paint for two points off the glass. Jocelyn crashed the boards and set the tone with her aggressive drives. She led the Red Wings with 14 points, adding 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Jaiden is committed to Virginia University for softball, but she has had a spectacular senior basketball season for Williamston. She was ruthless as a downhill scorer and rebounder against St. Johns. Jaiden powered through contact to finish an offensive rebound and one. She used a quick crossover to beat her defender and finished the left-handed layup. Jaiden was extremely effective at creating space with her dribble, scoring around the basket, and kicking the ball out to perimeter shooters for assists. She led the Hornets with 18 points, hitting four free throws with seven field goals. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Abby fired up the Hornets with her game-tying corner triple late in the fourth quarter against St. Johns. She knocked down another corner 3 in the first half and finished a layup in traffic. Abby dished 3 assists and corralled 3 rebounds for Williamston. She has the confidence to make clutch shots in important moments of games; she's done it in travel too. </p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Paityn had a very productive day for St. Johns against Williamston and her impact helped the team secure a hard-fought win. She drilled a corner 3, finished a layup, and tacked on a free throw. Paityn came up big for the Red Wings in the final minute. She sealed her defender to catch a lob entry pass and then made a tough contested left-handed layup off two feet. Paityn scored 8 points with 5 rebounds and 2 steals.</p>

<p class="text-gray-700">Rachel gave St. Johns a spark with her aggressive rebounding and determination around the basket. After gaining the advantage with a solid box-out, Rachel grabbed the offensive rebound and scored through contact for two. She finished the three-point play at the line with a confident follow-through. Rachel outworked the defense again to grab another offensive rebound and scored a nifty reverse layup through a foul. She moved laterally with quickness on the defensive end and sealed the victory with a perfectly executed closeout block on the perimeter at the buzzer. Rachel poured in 11 points for the Red Wings.</p>
