Class B Region 2 - State Qualifier Prediction

BENSON COUNTY   Benson County is 18-1 overall, 6-0 in District 4, and 12-0 in Region 2. They are currently ranked 3rd overall in Class B. They have multiple scoring options and a lot of young talent. Benson County will be a force for years to come.    Ella is a solid guard who is an excellent defender. Her on-ball defense is outstanding and she is quick to help in the half-court. She does a great job of traveling-on-air-time when there is a skip pass and closing out right to her girl. Ella is a great athlete and is an awesome role player. I appreciate how her game translates to wins.     Addisyn is an awesome left handed player. She is great at utilizing shot fakes and blowing by defenders. She is a capable finisher around the rim, finishing shots through contact for and-1 opportunities. She is a quick athletic player with a lot of promise for the future.     Aubrey is a superstar. She can score from anywhere on the floor. She is a deep three-point threat and does a great job of penetrating opposing team's defenses. She lets the game come to her and doesn't force any difficult shots. She is the girl every opponent's coach is worried about.     Benson County doesn't go very far into their bench, but Isabella is a quality player they can rely on. She is a trusted defender, often times coming into the game and guarding the opposing team's best player. Her length and size allow her to compete against bigger girls, while her quickness allows her to guard smaller girls. She is able to knock down the outside shot and is trusted to make decisions at the high post against zone defenses.     I really like how Kaitlyn plays the point guard position. She is incredibly steady with the ball and the decisions she makes. She does a great job of centering the ball to the middle of the court in transition and deciding when to pass and when to shoot. She has a really nice looking shot with a soft touch. She has good quickness and change of pace that allows her to get deep in the lane and shoot nice floaters over bigger secondary defenders.     Lacie is a young, talented post. She runs the floor hard and uses her body well around the rim. She is a competitive player, always fighting for positioning and offensive rebounds. She is a good finisher and does a nice job of drawing fouls and getting to the free-throw line. Lacie does a good job of plugging up the lane when Benson County decides to play zone.    MAY-PORT-C-G   May-Port-C-G is currently ranked 7th in the latest Class B polls. They are 14-4 overall, 5-1 in District 4, and 9-1 in Region 2. They have a great point guard and a superstar shooting guard. That combined with some size down low makes them a state tournament favorite.    Kiaza is an excellent point guard. I am really impressed with her ball-screen reads. She knows when to use them, when to refuse them, and when to re-use them. This is an ability that requires high basketball IQ. She has been taught well and Mayport utilizes a lot of ball screens in their offense. She has good footwork around the rim and is a good finisher.     Hudson is a key player for Mayport. She is smart and really good at positioning herself correctly on defense. She jumps to the ball in the correct spots and is ready in stance to close the gap and return to her girl. She is a great secondary ball-handling option and does a nice job of using the ball screen. She plays off two feet on her drives which results in very few turnovers.     I like how hard Carissa plays on both sides of the floor. She is a great athlete and a really good jumper. She times her jumps well on her rebounds, grabbing the ball at the peak of her jump. She is able to keep possessions alive by attacking the offensive glass. She is a good screener in Mayport's offense, sprinting to the screen and setting her feet. She is also a great defensive player.     Paetyn is a big body and anchor for Mayport's defense. She is a true 6'1 and does a nice job of playing down low. She keeps her feet and contests shots and has great timing when blocking shots. She can seal around the rim and has a nice jump hook to her right. She keeps the ball high on her rebounds, doing a nice job of securing boards.     Jordyn is an incredible talent and does a lot of really impressive things as a sophomore. She is absolutely deadly from behind the arc. She has had teams face-guard her this season, a testament to how good she is offensively. She also shines doing the little things. She is an excellent screener. She is an aggressive defender. And she does a very nice job hustling on the floor, diving for loose balls.    Langdon Area-Munich is another option to come out of Region 2. They have a talented roster that includes two very good 8th graders. If they don't make the state this season, be on the lookout for them in the future.
