S.E. Winter Series: 2029 Combo-Guards

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>High School basketball is moving closer to the state tournament, which means the 2025 travel circuit season is right around the corner. While everyone (including myself) has fixated on high school hoops, some of Michigan's top 8th-grade prospects have competed in travel circuit tournaments for months. Word traveled that Select Events was hosting a tournament at Morey Courts in Mount Pleasant on Saturday, which was too perfect an opportunity to pass up. UTS, Michigan Storm Elite, MBA, and Mystics were all in the house with several of Michigan's future top prospects competing on the court. She slashed through defenders to score layups all day and added a smooth corner 3 off the hop. O.J. beat her defender baseline then powered through contact to finish an and-one floater. She pushed the ball quickly down the court and used a hesitation crossover dribble to score another contested floater. O.J. caught a pass, used a shot-fake, and stepped through to score a layup off the glass with her right hand. She tossed strong passes over the defense for assists, created many steals, and consistently finished layups off the dribble. Kinley is a threat from beyond the arc, draining multiple wing 3s. She created space with a jab step and beat her defender off the dribble to score a contested layup off two feet. Kinley crossed over her defender again to score a contested floater and used a crossover behind-the-back dribble combination to create space to attack. She buried multiple wing 3s and beat defenders with a quick burst off the dribble. Kamryn paused briefly on the perimeter, then blew by with minimal dribbles to score a layup. She hounded the ball on defense to create deflections and steals, which resulted in layups. She used double-crossover combinations to shift defenders and dished crisp one-handed passes to teammates. Evelyn split through defenders to score a contested layup and finished a transition layup using a nifty euro-step high pickup move. She drove hard to the paint, landed with a jump stop, and elevated to convert a soft floater off the glass over a defender. Evelyn demonstrated understanding about when to make an extra pass to give a teammate an open look rather than force an unmakeable shot. She knocked down multiple free throws at the line with textbook mechanics.
