Continue ReadingI had several high points over the past two days covering the Katy Classic on Thursday and the Houston Tip-Off classic and that was great as opposed to feeling like I’m high reading some of the nonsense that runs rampant but Cristo Rey Coach Reginald Craven and I used to play ball together back in the eighties and that brought back several memories, his range was a foot or two past halfcourt and I brag on myself enough so just know I was in the mix. Another high point was talking to Kinkaid’s head coach Stacey Marshall’s daughter Sydney who is still in middle school about basketball and the knowledge this young lady was throwing at me makes her a “must-see” when the club season starts, the young lady was amazing but I wanted to start off with some players I hadn’t seen before or much of so here we go with four of them
Olympia Chavez-guard (St John Paul II) let me drop a footnote before anyone trips, I arrived late in the game and didn’t see how it started or who did what early but she handled the ball well, attacked the basket many times from various angles and finished, after contact but another thing that just stood out is the fact that she went hard but a basketball genius once said, size don’t matter
Jenna Brown-post (IL Texas Katy-Westpark HS) the senior showed an abundance of athleticism, she goes up strong and finishes the same way, with contact but watching her battle, despite them being down by a lot is playing the game the way it should be played. I don’t recall seeing her in club ball, she definitely could play at some level of the next level
Hannah Nicholas Hannah Nicholas 5'8" | CG Houston Chrisitian | 2022 State TX -guard (Houston Christian) watching her sister over the years while sitting in the stands observing told me a whole lot on what was coming and I wrote this two and a half years ago. Fast forward to now, the talented sophomore creates her shot in tight situations and understands how to pick apart defensive players. Her midrange is fluid and consistent, she knows how to get to her spots and elevates over defenders
Anastacia Yefimenko-guard (The Village School) she plays on a star-studded team filled with next-level players and I’m talking up to BCS but she understands her role and plays it to a tee. She doesn’t force shots, she thinks the game but don’t get it twisted because she can shoot the ball. She showed me her long-range a few months ago but she can put it on the floor as well
