Center Standouts from MAYB Summer Kickoff 2025

The high school divisions in the 2025 <a href="http://www.mayb.com">MAYB</a> Summer Kickoff tipped off in pool play late Friday afternoon at Wichita Hoops. Dozens of high school and club teams from six states filled the three age groups: 8th grade, 9th/10th grades and 11th/12th grades. Pool play continued into Saturday. Bracket play began mid-afternoon. The event's final games ran Sunday. It was an terrific event filled with rising talent and a couple handfuls of graduated players getting floor time before heading off to join their college teams. Several players made their mark and/or raised their stock in my eyes. Take a look at several centers who did.    The Maverick center showed well. Jensen has the greatest size in the state outside of Salina South's [player_tooltip player_id='621241' first='Paityn' last='Fritz'] and did a consistently good job of transitioning both ways. Her interior footwork is as good as ever inside on both ends and showed diversity in her scoring ability. From quality turnaround jumpers over solid defense to catching and finishing on the run to stepping out for a three. Jensen used a variety of post moves around the hoop, grabbed and cleared boards well and showed toughness recovering from hard hits and falls. I would like to see Jensen bend her knees more to work lower rebounding. She got wiped out on hard box-out that might not have had such a hard result.     Gallegos has a really good frame and solid strength. She runs the floor well, good hops, some handles and a consistent scoring game within ten feet. As word gets out colleges will be taking a serious look.     Her frame has filled some over the past year and her overall size is much more striking. She competes well for boards and battles to score against contact. Patry has good transition speed and athleticism. As she gets stronger, sits down more defensively and improves her footwork overall she will turn into a serious problem.     With her very solid frame, strength, interior footwork and ability to change ends consistently well Pitzer attracted the attention of several observers. She proved difficult to keep off the glass or prevent from getting good looks inside.     Wilson has shown a consistently strong, diverse game over the years and this weekend proved no different. I enjoyed seeing her battle a couple other quality bigs and Wilson held her own. She showed strength, quickness and transition speed as well as a willingness to use her lower body to hold ground or try to move or hold opponents. A very solid next-level prospect.     Proctor's athleticism and diverse scoring ability was impactful at the 3A state tournament and she will continue to play a central role in the Swathers success in the years ahead. During the MAYB Summer Kickoff she actively used her good size and length to work effectively as the low in the high-low game. In the years ahead I expect to see more physicality and strength defending inside as well as denying or fronting opposing bigs to take advantage of her reach and hops.
