Continue ReadingThe Tarkanian Classic is a special experience each year, right before the Christmas Holiday Week when kids come out to Las Vegas and show their skills in front of Coaches that decide to make the trip. This year, the girls side is booming and they are doing some good things to make the girls side just as successful as the boys side. Marketing and promotions for the girls are getting much better, the girls side ended up with 64 teams and some talent was lined up to keep the fans experience at its highest level as possible for this years event. We posted up at the Durango High School yesterday, which is the girls headquarters for this year and it proved to be some good basketball for us to watch til about 8pm. Here is the game we decided to watch and we identified the these athletes.
Durango High School (NV)
Diamond Division
2:20pm game; Court #1
Lone Peak(UT) Top Performers:
2020, 5’11, SF, Abby Conlee – decent forward type body on this girl, uses her body well and is able to get to rim with handles and has a nice midrange game. Was very impressed with her game IQ, she was really heady and she made the right play each and every time down on the floor.
2020, 5’9, Jane LeRoy – decent shooting guard with a nice touch from behind the three line. She handles the ball well and is a solid shooter from all three levels. She showcased her skills for all to see in this event and we like her size as a guard.
2021, 6’3, C, Maile Hunt – Big and long rebounder and shot blocker, runs the floor and is able to finish off the glass. Used her size to capitalize in the paint, had the ability to seal her defender on the block and could finish most times. A nice young big to keep your eyes on for the next few years.
Cajon (CA) Top Performers:
2021, 5’10, SF, Samaisha Morgan – forward with a nice body, handles it in the open floor and is able to get to the rim. Was quite athletic on the floor, ran it like a gazelle and made layups off the break allowing her team to get transition buckets in the books. Shot the ball decent from the midrange areas of the floor.
2022, 5’7, SG, Talia Washington – guard type, handles the ball well and is a pretty good defender on the ball. Fiesty type guard with some aggressive tendencies on the floor, kept her defender guessing all the time on what she was going to do.
2023, 5’6, PG, Ayana Campbell – point for the team, herky jerky handles and has a nice floater to her game. Does not turnover and her IQ is decent. She shot the ball well from midrange and could get to the rim with her crafty handles, but needs work on the three ball. If she becomes much more of a consistent three ball shooter, this kids ceiling is off the charts.
