Kennedy Sanders Kennedy Sanders 5'8" | CG Chaska | 2023 State MN , Guard, Chaska (2023)
Another player with boatloads of potential I watched yesterday was Kennedy Sanders Kennedy Sanders 5'8" | CG Chaska | 2023 State MN . Only a freshman, this guard has a great mid-range shot along with a drive to the bucket that’s not afraid of contact to make the free throws at the line. Up and down this Chaska Hawks roster, I get excited to see them grow not just this year, but for seasons to come as they have so much potential.
Lizzie Berkvam Lizzie Berkvam 5'10" | PG Lakeville North | 2021 State MN , Guard, Lakeville North (2021)
Berkvam wasn’t a player that blew up my stat sheet like others from the Panthers, but it’s that team points category that she was great in. As just a junior guard, you have to feel good about your future of guard play if you are Lakeville North as this elusive guard is only going to get better with time.
Kaylee Van Eps Kaylee Van Eps 5'11" | SF Chaska | 2021 State MN , Forward, Chaska (2021)
Van Eps proved why she’s a top 10er in our 2021 class. She not only finished with 22 points in a big win over Lakeville North, but she also joined the Chaska Hawks 1000 points club as just a junior. Her inside play, drive to the bucket and mid-range game is definitely something to watch from the Chaska Hawks.
Sarah Kuma Sarah Kuma 5'7" | CG Lakeville North | 2020 State MN , Guard, Lakeville North (2020)
Kuma was phenomenal last night for the Panthers. She was not only an effective shooter from everywhere but played well in that team points effort as well. She is definitely the 2nd punch behind Jensen but plays and handles the basketball very well. The Golden Bears are getting a good guard in Sarah Kuma Sarah Kuma 5'7" | CG Lakeville North | 2020 State MN next year.
Lauren Jensen Lauren Jensen 5'10" | CG Lakeville North | 2020 State MN , Guard, Lakeville North (2020)
Jensen started off the 1st half with a few turnovers, some missed buckets, and some fouls but boy oh boy did she rebound from that quickly. She is an absolute knock down shooter and really makes you work for it on defense with her catch and shoot and dribble to a spot technique, especially from deep which is her specialty. It’s too bad I can’t watch the guard combo of her and Sarah Kuma Sarah Kuma 5'7" | CG Lakeville North | 2020 State MN just one more year cause they are really fun to watch.
Mallory Heyer Mallory Heyer 6'1" | PF Chaska | 2022 State #36 Nation MN , Guard, Chaska (2022)
In a game that four players scored 20 points or more, it made it hard to pick a game MVP but I found one in Heyer. Mallory Heyer Mallory Heyer 6'1" | PF Chaska | 2022 State #36 Nation MN was my game MVP in this one as she finished with 26 points and provided her team a massive boost in a big win over Lakeville North. I’ve seen milestones, but not ones like the Chaska Hawks yesterday. Heyer and Van Eps both scored their 1000 point club baskets within 2-3 minutes of each other. That’s definitely a milestone I’ve never ever seen before and I’m happy to say I was a witness of their big day at Park Center.
Chaska (7-3) will get a little time before their next game where they will head to St. Louis Park to play conference rival Benilde-St. Margarets on Tuesday, January 7th at 6:00 PM.
Lakeville North (4-6) will play their biggest and only rival in the city of Lakeville when they play Lakeville South on January 2nd at 7:00 PM at home.
