Rising Stars: Freshman Girls Ready to Elevate In HS Basketball

Some say our sport is lacking due to kids having so many options. Back in the day, you didn't necessarily specialize in a sport early on, but when it was that season, you laced them up and competed. Nowadays, with so many different sports overlapping, kids (or parents) have to choose, and that can be both a good thing and a bad thing.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I do feel our sport has gotten better over the years. I feel that the quality is good, and kids who love the sport are buying in. I also feel that those who commit to the sport will have an opportunity to play collegiately if they so want to. Looking at the travel ball realm of things, I think competition is better from both independent and shoe circuits. In my mind, that equates to better school ball teams, especially those who have girls play that type of competition in the offseason.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Overall, what I have seen, especially at a young age, girls have bought in and have embraced the grind of the sport. They have been inspired, have become students of the game, and go out and compete no matter the location or platform. From single A to Division II AA, the quality, in my opinion, is on the upswing, and the game itself has gotten better from a skill standpoint. You see girls come into the high school realm ready to contribute and carve out a role for their new club.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With that being said, I would like to touch on some high school freshmen who are going to help their new program out this upcoming year. Since I'm not their coach, who knows the role they will play? All I can say is that these girls are going to play their part and excel in their role. A combo player who could play either 1 or 2. Solid ball player who is a great defender and can impact the game in a heartbeat. Her defense turns into offense, where she finishes strong on either side of the rim. She will look to come in and contribute right away to the GH program. Look for her to grow into a solid PG who will not only distribute the ball, but knock down shots from multiple spots as well. Offensively, she can stretch the floor and work along the perimeter as well as battle inside. Defensively, she is going to battle on the glass, block shots, and neutralize her opponent. She's a heady ball player who is going to be a solid addition to the Lady Raptors ball club. This kid has a solid game from the arc, but she can be dominant on the inside. She's no stranger to putting the ball in the hole. I love her ability to battle, and she will not only do that on the offensive end, but also get after it on the defensive end as well. She's a strong kid who is going to be a nice addition to the program. Look for her to come in, get her footing, and excel. She can knock down the 3-ball consistently, exploit the mid-range, and finish at the rim. She loves competition and is willing to go compete and guard the other team's best player. Keeping the opponent in front, she is going to give them fits as she locks them up. A great teammate who is willing to do whatever it takes to win. Defense is one of her calling cards as she utilizes her speed and size to create turnovers. Offensively, she can step out and knock down the 3 ball, but she is a downhill threat, using her frame and quick first step to get to the rim. Look for her to step into the EH program, looking to contribute right away. A solid ballplayer who has tremendous upside.<br><br></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
