As the second half of the season begins, the challenge to maintain their spot at the top will be tough. There are some quality players in the league, some who were expected to put up the big numbers, others who have surprised.
With the second half of the season here, a look at some of the key players to watch the rest of the way.
Underclass Players Off to a Fast Start
Sarah Johnson, 6-0 Soph., Troy Christian
Sarah is back from injury this season, and for the most part, she has been a strong factor for the Eagles. She reached a double-double in a win against Miami Valley School, and in addition to scoring just under ten points per game, she is also averaging seven rebounds. Good compliment with Sarah Earhart to provide solid height and showcase their skills.
Trinity Bellard, 5-8 Soph., Middletown Christian
Not particularly a sleeper, but Trinity has proven that her freshman season was no fluke. Athletic guard who can score in a variety of ways. Can slash to the rim and get to the line. Has not been a big threat yet from the perimeter, but once she locks that in, she will be very difficult to contain.
Katie Campbell, 5-5 Soph., Miami Valley
She has done it all for the Rams, as the guard has been steady every night. Averaging close to 20 points per game and has five double-doubles this season. Also averaging 10 rebounds per game. Quick and runs the floor well. Can get to the line and not afraid to pop the three. Good handles.
Emma Hess Emma Hess 6'0" | SF Legacy Christian Academy | 2021 State OH , 5-11 Jr., Legacy Christian
The best player in the conference, and has had to step up her game a bit more when her running mate Kathryn Ahner was recovering from a back injury. Hess is one of the best perimeter shooters in Ohio, can also drive and score. Active on defense and great in the north-south game.
Kathleen Ahner Kathleen Ahner 5'8" | CG Legacy Christian Academy | 2021 OH , 5-8 Jr., Legacy Christian
Missed some time this season due to injury, but she is back and ready for a strong second half of the season. Floor leader with good handles. Strong from the perimeter, slasher and good body control. Good passer.
Angie Smith Angie Smith 5'6" | CG Yellow Springs | 2022 State OH , 5-8 Soph, Yellow Springs
Angie is an explosive scorer, can score from either inside or outside. Gets to the rim with her athleticism and speed. Excellent handles. Averaging well over 20 points per game.
Fab Freshman
Tahnez Herron, Jefferson
The main offensive threat for a team who has struggled to win, but has seen their offense improve since last year when the team averaged less than ten points per game. She is among the top five in scoring in the league.
Senior Standouts
Sarah Earhart, 6-1, Troy Christian
Solid wing who loves to score from the perimeter. Moves well without the ball and creates shots. Consistent all season, scored a season high 19 points to date in her last game. Leader of the unbeaten Eagles.
