Elk River was strong in the first half of this one was and went into halftime with a 29-22 lead led by Lydia Haack Lydia Haack 5'3" | PG Elk River | 2020 State MN and her double-digit scoring in the first half. Blaine struggled in the first half with shooting, which was a different story in the 2nd half. The shots that were not falling inside from Kayla Bohr Kayla Bohr 5'10" | CG Blaine | 2020 State MN , Madison Hoehne Madison Hoehne 6'0" | SF Blaine | 2021 State MN and Anna Garfield in the first half were falling like crazy in the second half. Blaine, a team that only had 7 wins all of last year, is certainly the shocker of the Northwest Suburban Conference as they now have 11 wins almost mid-way through the season. Here are my five takeaways in this Northwest Suburban battle in Elk River last night.

(#53, 2020)last three games to start the new year have gone 24 at Roseville, 28 at Park Center and on Thursday night she went for 22 points against a tough Blaine team. A 5’4 quick and elusive guard for the Elks,

(#57, 2021) started off her season with the Bengals hot with averaging 20 ppg in the first four games but then trailed off a bit in December when we were able to watch her play against an overmatched Apple Valley team. She gone over her averaged (12) in the last four outings including against Elk River on Thursday where she dropped 14 points. As a 6’0 forward, she gives Blaine length and a good looking jump shot to go with it.
Under the Radar Performance
Ellie Maass (2021) was the second in command for the Elks on Thursday night. She scored in double digits to assist

in the backcourt. She showed a good ability to score from anywhere outside and grabbed key rebounds to assist the Elk’s rebounding force. It wasn’t enough on the team side, but it was enough to be noticed by PGH Minnesota.
Anna Garfield is a Driving Bucket and Made Some Key Free Throws
Anna Garfield (2020) grew even stronger on my stock risers list from her first outing I watched against Apple Valley earlier this season. She was very productive in driving to the bucket and getting Blaine what they needed to bury the Elks in the second half. She also hosts a good jump shot and made key free throws late in the second half too but the icing on the cake for the 11-2 Bengals.

(#133, 2020) in the first half was struggling to hit an inside shot, but she certainly got in a groove in the second half and finished with 21 points. Her shots inside 5 feet started to hit and she used her physicality to muscle through key layups for the Bengals as well in the second half. She and Anna Garfield were key down the stretch at the free-throw line, as Bohr also was also a key contributor at the line in the end. Bohr is still an unsigned 2020 forward, that with the season she’s having, should get some love from a scholarship level program here soon with improving her scoring averaging from 14.5 ppg to over 20 ppg this season.
Elk River (9-4) will travel to Fridley on Tuesday 1/14 to take on Totino-Grace (7-6) and Carla Meyer Carla Meyer 5'7" | PG Totino Grace | 2020 State MN who’s averaging over 15 ppg for the Eagles this season.
Blaine (11-2) will head home also on Tuesday 1/14 and face another tough test in Maple Grove (10-3). We watched this Maple Grove team last week struggle against St. Michael-Albertville in a 20 point loss, but the frontcourt play of Bohr vs. Jordyn Lamker Jordyn Lamker 6'0" | SF Maple Grove | 2021 State MN will be fun to watch, as Lamker is one of the top rebounders I have watched this season.
