North Shore was in a tie with Beaumont United for the top spot in the district and Laporte trying to hold on to that final playoff spot in R-3 6A District 21 and to say there were thrills on numerous occasions would definitely be an understatement but I did leave with a few thoughts
Laporte’s upperclassmen
Koko WooleyKoko Wooley, Amber Pace, and Harbe Felicien are all seniors, Tu’Myra Mount is a junior and the fire, as well as the, never give up mindset is part of the reason they stayed within striking distance. Wooley falls into that, “I knew her before she was born” category as I watched her older sister as well as her cousin for years. Wooley understands how to score yet her talents will be taken to Texas A&M on a softball scholarship, let me drop a Gig Em!
Laporte’s Keely Cummings
Keely CummingsThe talented freshmen is one of the area’s leaders in made 3 pointers and one of the district’s top scorers. Her ability continues to progress, the mindset has always been there and when she gets going, she’s hard to contain but I’m really liking her ability to mix it up
North Shore’s upperclassmen
Cy’maya ColquittDonalynn Johnson continues to be one of the hardest workers in the paint in the city and she plays bigger than her size. The steady improvement from Makayla Patterson over the years shows in big ways as she understands the game starts at the one but her acrobatic “and ones” down the stretch helped seal the victory. The long ball shooting from Zaida Burris will be needed come playoffs. Cy’Maya Colquitt is giving much-needed offense off the bench, she came in and made her presence felt almost immediately and also helped secure the victory in the closing minutes
North Shore’s Chrishelle Washington
Chrishelle WashingtonOne of the states top sophomores, Washington keeps turning corners as she plays the 1, 2 and drops the 3 but her intensity is second to none and she keeps applying heat, on both ends of the floor but her mindset has always impressed me because she’s one of those “you won’t outwork me” types of players
North Shore’s Shalayne Gould
Shalayne GouldI have her listed on the 2023 Watch List and I was watching just how right I was because with the injury to sophomore Ja’Nyla Kennedy, she has stepped into the starting lineup and her desire just trickles down. I love players that play the passing lane, she does that well and it led to several buckets but her slashing and rebounding on both ends definitely stood out
