The game was highly emotional and came down to the final possesion, ending with Kell pulling it out 44-43. There were a few players that really made huge impacts on this game and stood out with their high-level play:
Crystal Henderson | 2023 | G | Kell
Henderson was controlled the tempo/pace of the game for Kell and ran the show at a high level. She was the catalyst for Kell all night long creating plays for herself and others, they leaned on her during adverse moments in the game and she delivered time and time again. She displayed advanced ball-handling skills breaking pressure and making the correct plays. Henderson buried multiple shots from long-range and was comfortable shooting off the bounce or the catch, and when she didn’t have the outside shot she got into the lane for floaters that seemed to be automatic for her. High IQ player, mature and beyond her years.
Jamiah Gregory | 2023 | F | Kell
Gregory seemed to be the emotional leader for Kell as they fed off of her energy, which she brought a ton of. She showed plenty of versatility and her impact was felt in multiple aspects of the game. She rebounded the ball well on both ends, but especially came up big on the offensive glass. Gregory also played inspiring defense on the ball and came up with some huge momentum swinging blocks. On top of that she served as an additional play-maker for Kell, helping taking pressure off the guards when needed.
Kya Williams | 2020 | G | Kell
Williams was confident with the ball in her hands, she was the secondary ball-handler for Kell and played a key role in their victory. Williams was able to get into the lane to make plays to score or draw fouls, she also showed a nice touch from outside.
De’mauri Flournoy | 2021 | G | Carrollton
Flournoy was arguably the most impressive player on the floor, which is why she was named player of the year in the region after the game. She nearly willed Carrollton to a victory, but came up just short. A very skilled player and she scored the ball basically at will all night. She froze defenders with an array of moves off the bounce and usually finished with a basket. She used a number of step-backs, pull-backs, behind the back moves to create space and still able to finish shots from all three levels. She showed the ability to shoot off the bounce from deep or inside the 3 and also made strong drives to the basket. She also played with a-lot of heart and passion and always got her team back into the game whenever Kell made big runs, she played hard until the final buzzer sounded.
Eghosa Obasuyi | 2023 | G | Carrollton
Ogasuyi showcased a confident stroke from the outside knocking down multiple 3 point shots in the 1st half. She also played the passing lanes well on defense, jumping lanes for steals and disrupting the flow of Kell’s offense. On top of that she showed solid guard skills driving and drawing defenders and making drop-off passes for easy baskets.
