It began with a 37-28 win over No. 2 Weehawken. Aaliyah Amos finished with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and five steals to lead the way. This win would have made their season but they were not done. Arts was prepared for a matchup with No. 10 People’s Prep after their win over No. 7 Weequahic. Defense was key once again for Arts as they held People’s Prep to just two first quarter points and 23 overall. It was a dominant 25-point win led by 14 points and 17 rebounds from Aaliyah Watts.
Arts will play in the semi-final round on Friday night against No. 3 Glen Ridge who took down No. 6 Shabazz in the quarterfinal. They can continue their magical run if their defense keeps up the intensity.
No. 1 New Providence to face No. 4 Belvidere
Top-seeded New Providence is running through the bracket like expected. They have outscored opponents 92-26 over their first two games. Megan Lamanna has led New Providence in scoring in each of the first two games. She is scoring 13.5 points so far in the tournament. New Providence is the clear-cut favorite to win after a 25-3 season. They are just loaded from top to bottom with depth and players who can score at a high rate.
New Providence will be taking on Belvidere, who did not have as easy of a time in the quarterfinal round. They were taken down to the wire by Dunellen but were able to hold on for a 43-39 victory. Nora Dornich scored 15 points to lead the way for Belvidere. They will need to score more in the semi-final if they want to keep pace with the powerhouse that is New Providence.
