Continue ReadingWe look at many of the more impressive up and coming players in the Suburban conference, some overlooked and some well known already after the 2019-20 season. Many of these players are just beginning to come into their own and become some of the more dominant play makers, both on offense and on defense.
Myah Coleman, 5-7, G, 2022, McCluer South-Berkeley
The overall scoring leader among the South Suburban blue, Coleman averaged 16.6 ppg. and scored 348 points in 21 games while also adding 42 treys on the year as a super sophomore to know in the STL. Coleman is likely one of the most overlooked play makers in the area and one that we think could really be a force in her final two seasons with the Bulldogs . Had 30 and 28 in her games vs. Normandy. 74 steals on defense also showed just how balanced her game was.
Amonye Allen, 5-8, G, 2022, Riverview Gardens
Allen was a good one for the Rams this season and averaged 12.3 pp. while scored 245 points in 20 games. Allen also netted 33 points for Riverview and was a key part of their offense on the season. Amonye is a player that also was a rebounding machine with 22 vs. DeSoto and 19 in the opener vs. Hazelwood East. Had other top games of over 20 boards as well on the season, those coming vs. Affton (21) and vs. North Tech (20).
Don’ee Johnson, 5-9, F, 2021, Normandy
Normandy’s Don’ee Johnson could be one of the players that will really be a huge factor for Normandy as a senior in the season ahead after showing that she can score and do some nice things for the Vikings. Johnson was at a 11.2 scoring clip for the season and shot 46.7% from the floor on 100-214. Scored 20+ four times with 24 vs. Medicine & Bioscience and 23 vs. Thomas Jefferson. Added 22 vs. Hazelwood East and 20 vs. Roosevelt.
Aaliyah Brown, 2021, University City
One of the top defensive players in the conference was 2021 class standout Aaliyah Brown of U City, a player that was among the best in steals with 57 on the year and an all-quick hands team type player. Brown also was tough with 20 blocks on the year and showed that she was very capable of being a defender to reckon with.
Jayla Morton, F/C, 2021, Normandy
Back to defense we go, as Morton of Normandy was one of the more impressive class of 21 defenders in the Suburban league. Jayla, who also showed some scoring with three double digit games, was a block specialist for the Vikings and finished with 28 on the year and had a season best 5 vs. Affton. Also grabbed double digit boards in games vs. Sumner and McCluer South-Berkeley.
