The holiday season featured one of the most exciting girls basketball tournaments of the year, hosted at Lawrence Central on Tuesday, December 23. The event brought together elite programs from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Kentucky, including Male (KY), River Rouge (MI), Fort Wayne Snider (IN), Detroit Mumford (MI), Pike (IN), Big Walnut (OH), Bellville (MI), and Lawrence Central (IN). Every team boasted standout talent, with several players already committed to Division I programs or drawing interest from multiple D1 offers. The tournament was extremely well organized and offered fans the chance to watch high-level competition, featuring fast-paced action, intense defense, and individual skill on display.

Across the tournament, Pike (IN) continued to show why they are considered one of Indiana's deepest teams, combining talented scorers with strong defensive execution. Other standout performers included players from Fort Wayne Snider, Detroit Mumford, and Big Walnut, all of whom displayed scoring versatility, athleticism, and poise under pressure. The tournament provided a glimpse of the future stars in prep girls basketball, highlighting players who can impact games on both ends of the floor and showing the importance of teamwork and basketball IQ at a high level. With so much talent on display, fans were treated to a showcase of competitive, exciting basketball that sets the tone for the rest of the holiday season.

[player_tooltip player_id='879936' first='Janaya' last='Cooper'], Sophomore Guard – Cooper returned from injury and immediately made an impact, finishing with 30 points. She showcased her scoring versatility, attacking the rim, knocking down mid-range jumpers, and stretching the defense with deep-range shooting. Cooper also displayed poise as a floor leader, controlling the pace and creating opportunities for her teammates. Her return provides Snider with a dynamic scorer and playmaker on both ends of the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id='1263971' first='McKenzie' last='White'], Freshman Post – White made her presence felt in the paint, scoring 14 points and establishing herself as a strong interior option. She used her size and physicality to finish through contact and was effective on the boards, helping Snider control the glass. White's ability to score inside and provide consistent rebounding makes her an exciting young talent to watch this season.

Team Notes – Snider's depth and cohesion were on full display, with multiple players contributing across all quarters. Their fast-paced style and ability to execute both offensively and defensively allowed them to dominate early and maintain control throughout the game, highlighting why they are a top contender in the region.

It was great to see [player_tooltip player_id='879936' first='Janaya' last='Cooper'] back on the court with Fort Wayne Snider, and she immediately showed why she is the team's floor leader. Offensively, Cooper controlled the game, consistently finding her spots to score—whether attacking the rim, pulling up for mid-range jumpers, or hitting shots from beyond the arc. Her court vision stood out as she created opportunities for teammates, setting others up to score and keeping the defense off balance.

Defensively, Cooper applied constant pressure on the ball, disrupted passing lanes, and stayed active in transition, helping her team control the pace. She led by example, setting the tone with her energy, poise, and basketball IQ. Cooper finished with a game-high 30 points, but her influence went far beyond the stat sheet, demonstrating why she is a complete player and a critical piece of Snider's success moving forward.

Alongside [player_tooltip player_id='879936' first='Janaya' last='Cooper'], it was great to see [player_tooltip player_id='1263971' first='McKenzie' last='White'] back on the floor for Fort Wayne Snider. Although she is a freshman, White played with the poise and confidence of a veteran, making an immediate impact. She dominated the boards, scored efficiently in the paint, and used her size and skill to control the interior. White also demonstrated impressive floor awareness, running the court effectively to get into scoring position while contributing on defense.

With both Cooper and White on the floor and a fully healthy Snider roster, the team has the talent and depth to make a deep run in the state tournament. White's combination of size, skill, and basketball IQ makes her an exciting player to watch this season and a key piece of Snider's success moving forward.

Detroit Mumford (MI) is a young, talented team featuring some of the top guards in the Detroit area. The team was led by Gabby Foster, who scored 21 points, and one of Michigan's premier guards, Aryana Slater, who showcased her speed, vision, and scoring ability.

Mumford struggled to find their rhythm early in the game, but they finished strong with a late run, displaying effort and resilience despite the score. Being only their fourth game of the season, the team is still discovering its identity, learning to play cohesively while developing its young core. Their competitive effort, energy, and talent indicate a bright future as they continue to gain experience.

Gabby Foster steadily made her presence felt for Detroit Mumford throughout the game. A smooth left-handed scorer, Foster consistently found her spots offensively, using her quickness and ball-handling to attack the rim and stretch the defense with perimeter shooting. Early in the game, Fort Wayne Snider didn't guard the outside aggressively, allowing Foster to knock down multiple shots from around the three-point line, forcing the defense to adjust.

Beyond scoring, Foster showed strong decision-making and playmaking ability, creating opportunities for teammates and keeping her team in the game. Defensively, she stayed active on the perimeter, pressured the ball, and contested shots, helping disrupt Snider's rhythm. Her poise, skill, and two-way impact made her one of the top performers for Mumford and a key reason the team remained competitive throughout the matchup.

Aryana Slater was another standout guard for Detroit Mumford, and watching her alongside Gabby Foster made the backcourt a lot of fun to watch. Even in the loss, Slater played with relentless effort on both ends of the floor, showing the poise, awareness, and confidence of a much more experienced player. She has excellent court vision and decision-making, consistently running the offense and creating opportunities for teammates.

Slater is a dynamic scorer as well, capable of attacking the rim, pulling up off the bounce, and hitting jumpers from distance. She also competes defensively, applying pressure on the ball, staying active in passing lanes, and challenging shots. Her combination of speed, skill, and basketball IQ makes her one of the top point guards in her class. Colleges will take notice of how well she competes at a high level, demonstrating leadership, maturity, and the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. Slater's performance in this game shows she has the potential to be a cornerstone player for Mumford and a future standout at the next level.
