Over the past dozen or so weeks we've been trying to talk less about scoring milestones and more about other aspects of the game in these Monday recaps. Given how much else goes on from week to week, it seemed like a doable goal. Nope. That's proved to be impossible given that the record books are being rewritten on a near-weekly basis and that simply cannot be ignored. It happened again during the Week That Was #14 as the two greatest scorers in state history traded record-breaking blows once again.

On Friday night [player_tooltip player_id='252381' first='Maddyn' last='Greenway'] of Providence Academy (Kentucky commit) scored 47 points against United Christian Academy to pass [player_tooltip player_id='205310' first='Tori' last='Oehrlein'] of Crosby-Ironton (Gophers signee) as the top scorer of all time. “Not so fast!” Tori must have said, because on Saturday she scored 53 in a five-point win over Minnehaha Academy to regain the lead. That puts the race at 5,417 points for Oehrlein and 5,394 for Greenway heading into the post-season. Maddyn is averaging 36.2 ppg; Tori 38.1. Will we ever see anything like this again? We might.

JOHNSON REACHES 3,000

If [player_tooltip player_id='433933' first='Chloe' last='Johnson'] has a say, we may have another 5,000+ point scorer in the next couple of years. Last week the top-ranked sophomore in the state passed 3,000 points herself, the fifth active Minnesota high-schooler to do so. She joins Oehrlein, Greenway, 2027 [player_tooltip player_id='498658' first='Morgan' last='Mathiowetz'] of Sleepy Eye St Mary's, 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='782558' first='Kate' last='Thayer'] of Northome-Kelliher and 2026 [player_tooltip player_id='478375' first='Kadence' last='Pierce'] of Ogilvie.

Johnson did the deed in typical Chloe style – and end-to-end rush punctuated by a slick wrap-around dribble and sweet finish. Pretty! The thing with Chloe is it's never about points. Averaging over 31 per game, Johnson's production is all about what her team needs, not about seeing how many she can score. Chloe may be the best facilitator in the country, an athlete whose on-court intelligence, sense of timing and feel for the game are unparallelled. That's why she is the top-rated 2028 point guard in America, a generational talent with the potential to impact the game on the world stage.

Johnson now has more than 800 points on the season and almost 40% of her team's total offense. She's shooting 62% from the field, 40% from three-point range and 74% at the free throw line. She's also averaging 11.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game with 116 steals and 27 blocked shots. Chloe has topped the 40-point mark four times including 50 points in a close game with Rice Lake, Wisconsin and 45 in a one-point win over Stevens Point. She's bettered the 30-point mark more than a dozen times, including the last eight games in a row. She is the 32nd player in Minnesota history to score more than 3,000 career points.

2,000-POINT SCORERS

A remarkable four more players reached 2,000 career points last week led by sophomore forward [player_tooltip player_id='653853' first='Peyton' last='Hoffman'] of Climax-Fisher, the 12th-rated prospect in the Class of 2028. Averaging nearly 27 points per game (plus 15.2 rebounds), Peyton also hit the 1,000-rebound mark this month. Those numbers are all the more impressive given that Hoffmann missed all of last season with a torn ACL. The other 2,000-point scorers in Week #14 were:

NOW WHAT?

The post-season has arrived. That means a week's worth of first-round blowouts statewide as top seeds play bottom seeds in section play. Look for a handful of triple digits vs single digits outcomes, especially in the smaller classes. The results are inevitable and unfortunate given the current system utilized in most sections. After that it gets good as we make our way to the State Tournament March 11-14 in Minneapolis.

This week Ally McGinnis will be taking a closer look at the section races in each class and I'll be rolling out the updated Class of 2027 prospect rankings. This is my final installment of the Week That Was series for 2025-26. After nearly a decade, this task will belong to Ally next season as she ramps up her Prep Girls Hoops contributions in the months ahead. Thanks for reading!
