All-City Series: Knoxville Area Prospects (Part 2)

See, one of the things I love about this part of the state is that girls grow up with a sense of pride in women's basketball. You learn about the history. What does it mean to your community. As you begin playing the sport, it all comes together as you have something to strive for. Of course, just like anything else successful in a city, kids tend to grow up wanting to be or emulate what they see. Many young ladies grow up wanting to play big-time college basketball. Though only a few chosen ones play for the University of Tennessee, many other schools benefit from the success and hard work of these individuals.   Every year, when I talk to coaches, they always talk about which programs they may run into once they get out of their region, coming from the Knoxville/East Tennessee area. The girls in this area play with grit. They are going to do the little things right to put themselves in a position to win ballgames. For a while now, this area has churned out players who go on to play at the next level. That wheel isn't done turning, as there are more and more on the way. In part 1 of the All City Series, you were introduced to some prospects. Take a look at some more prospects coming from the Marble City area.    She's a ballplayer. One that gets after it on both ends of the floor. Playing with such energy, the team feeds off her style of play. A heady ballplayer who is always in position to make the right play. A PG who can feed the hot hand, but do her thing as well. Whether it's being aggressive and taking it to the rim or spotting up along the arc, her presence on the floor alone gives her club an edge. She's solid on the defensive end, one who is going to be disruptive and make things difficult for the opposing team to operate. It seems as if she gets better every time she steps onto the floor. Doesn't matter what's at stake, she's a kid who's going to bring it. Look for her to be a solid addition to a program at the next level.     She's a double-double machine. Before I get into her offensive skills, let me talk about what she brings to the defensive side of the ball. For starters, she's a rebounder. One who will go up to its highest point and secure the basketball. Her length makes it tough for opponents to finish in the paint. If one does secure the ball down low, she is solid in her positioning, using her lower half, and making them uncomfortable as she closes out space. Let me add as well, she is a sensational shot blocker. I love how she sprints the floor in transition. She has soft hands and can finish passes coming from over the top. Offensively, she is tough around the blocks. Finishing with a drop step over either shoulder, she is going to put the ball in the hoop. She's playing with more confidence now, and it shows as she is comfortable on the floor. This young lady's recruitment is picking up, and you better believe more schools will take notice of this special talent.     A workhorse who seems to always be adding to her game. She's a get who has transitioned nicely to playing various positions/spots on the floor. Sure, she can grind it out down low with her back to the basket, exploit the mid-range, knock down 3s along the perimeter, but now she's even added to where she can catch and show a counter, then take you off the dribble. An aggressive ballplayer who is going to do her part on both ends of the floor. She's on the board. She's going to defend. She's going to defend. She's a contributor in every statistical category there is. She's on a mission to help her school go deep this senior season. In the meantime, look for her to also commit to a program at the next level and truly be a solid piece for that school for years to come.     A heady floor general who is the key to the engine. This kid is an aggressive downhill threat who has finishes for days. She can score in the paint; however, she can also unleash a nice mid-range jumper and 3-pointer to complement her offensive ability to run an offense efficiently. She plays with poise. Doesn't get rattled. Always protecting the basketball and can distribute the rock with the best of them. Defensively, she causes fits as deflections and steals led to transition buckets. She's a solid ballplayer, one who impacts the game in a multitude of ways. Keep tabs on this young lady because she is a kid who gets the job done.     Big guard who can work inside and out. As a bag of moves, she unleashes with the ball in her hands. She can play with her back to the basket or face up and hit you with a pound, then a step-back. She can knock down the 3 ball at a high clip or attack from the arc and finish through contact. She's a solid scoring threat no matter where she is on the floor. Defensively, her size poses a threat. She can guard both bigs and wings, making them shoot tough shots. Can block shots, contribute on the boards. This young lady brings an all-around game to the table that D1 schools are clamoring for. Look for her to land at a great school at the next level, but in the meantime, she will be the leading catalyst on a program looking to go deep next year as they contend for state.     Highly-touted guard looking to make noise in the high school ranks. Colleges are already taking notice of this sensational talent, and high school coaches are biting their nails as they try to figure out how to slow this young lady down. A true three-level scoring threat who can do all things. She can break down a defender and get to the rim. Change her pace as she can be aggressive, and then stop and pop into a middy. Leave any space along the perimeter, and she will knock it down from 3. Her ability to make reads and then play off that is second to none. She has great passing vision. Will lock up on the defensive end. She's an exciting prospect that will be terrorizing the hardwoods for the next couple of years. Keep tabs on this special talent as she continues to grow and gains even more attention from collegiate coaches at the next level.     Her stock is rising! This kid plays with speed and is impactful on both ends of the floor. Defensively, she can sit down and guard, but is always in position to jump passing lanes and create easy fast-break opportunities. Offensively, she can attack off the dribble and finish around the rim or exploit the mid-range. She's effective along the perimeter as she can catch and shoot or put the ball on the floor and finish. She's a solid passer who can get timely assists. Plays with great energy, she's one that her teammates feed off of. This kid is a special talent and will be on multiple collegiate radars sooner rather than later.     A fierce competitor who brings it every time she steps onto the floor. A kid who can knock down outside shots, but take her opponent off the bounce and finish at the rim. She's an aggressive ball player who makes her opponent play on their heels. I love her defensive ability. She is not only going to sit down and guard her opponent but also wreak havoc on them. This girl gets steals and deflections. She has quick hands that create chaos for an opponent. Plays the game with great energy. Look for her to be the leading catalyst for her ballclub over the next couple of years.
