Paint Presence: 2028’s Overlooked Centers

We talk about the versatility of players and how the game has changed, but if you do have a big on your team, there is value there. From getting rebounds, blocking shots, to changing game plans, to inside scoring, the opportunities a big presents can be endless. Guard play is the popular/ cool thing. Bigs tend to get overlooked because they do the dirty work. Kind of like in football, the QB and skill players get all the hype, but the line is what makes it possible for them.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I do feel that in Tennessee, we have some overlooked bigs. We tend to put them in a box based on their height and skill. However, they bring more than that. Another thing, too, is that most girls who reach 6'0+ aren't staying down low. They are stretching the perimeter a little more. Over the course of the season, we will overturn some rocks and find some gems that play the 5 spot. She is poised for a great year, contributing across multiple phases at her school. She has put in the work and has gotten better both in training and on the circuit. I expect her to get some valuable minutes where she unleashes her nice back-to-the-basket moves. I love her ability to rebound the ball and block shots. She really brings the force as she swats balls out of the air. Playing with such confidence, she is a versatile big who can play with her back to the basket or face up and get the job done. She has a nice shooting stroke from the field where she can unleash 3s, especially from the corner. She can handle the ball and use her body to get into spin moves as she attacks and has a really nice step-through move. I love her passing ability. She is great at hitting open teammates out of double-team situations. She's on the boards and really brings it in each contest. A solid finisher around the rim, she knows how to take up space, establish position, and go to work. She has a nice bag of over-the-shoulder moves. She has a nice stroke from the mid-range area as well. What I love about her on the offensive side of the ball is her soft hands. Anything thrown in her direction, she grabs it with two hands and finishes. She is solid on the boards and runs the floor well. She is hard to deal with in the paint, and she had a great travel ball season this past summer. Look for her to continue improving. A physical kid who can jump, she knows how to use her body to her advantage. She can stretch the floor and knock down the 3-ball; however, she can also move inside the arc and finish around the rim. She contributes on the boards and helps neutralize her opponents. Look for her to play with confidence this upcoming season and help her club stack Ws along the way.<br><br></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
