Protect the Paint: TN’s Top Shot Blockers Return This Season

This is a must to be a championship team. If you happen to have a kid who can protect the rim and shoot, that's half the battle right there. Having an anchor in the middle is a necessity; however, blocking shots without fouling is an art in itself.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Last season, we had a good bit of young ladies who used their bodies to make it difficult for opponents to get a clean look. Those shot attempts resulted in misses, and some were even blocked. We have some kids returning to the hardwood this season who were shot-blocking leaders in Tennessee. Often, kids in basketball are overly aggressive when blocking shots. Leading to fouls, which can be a momentum swinger as well as a deterrent for a squad. An anchor in the middle, she's locking down the painted area and protecting the rim. Averaging 3.7 blocks a game, this kid led the state in blocks. Look for her to come out of the gates strong and capitalize on a solid freshman season. She is a double-double threat every time she steps onto the floor. Scoring the basketball is in her repertoire, as is grabbing boards. However, she also does a solid job deterring shots. She had 2.6 bpg last season, and I expect her to post similar numbers this year. Using her six-foot frame, she made it hard for opponents to operate down low. A disruptor with great footwork and speed, she made a difference everywhere on the floor.
