SC Recruiting Notebook for 10/5

We are inching closer and closer to tip off of the 2026-27 high school girls basketball season. Every new season not only brings plenty of intrigue about how teams from Atlantic Collegiate to York will perform.

It also brings intrigue as to what is next for notable names in a senior class. Since our last update from the Palmetto State's recruiting trail, there have been two more noteworthy commitments from South Carolina high school prospects as well as more offers being extended.

As the season elapses, more from the class of 2027 will announce whose college colors they will wear. Here is the latest from the state's recruiting trail.

When a college program experiences glory days – as Iowa did earlier this decade during its Caitlin Clark era – it can have a domino effect on said program's recruitment. The recruiting tentacles of coach Jan Jensen's Hawkeyes have found their way into the Palmetto State as evidenced by the 4A Westside star declaring she will sport Iowa black and gold beginning in 2027. Iowa, Georgia and Virginia Tech were Hartwell's final three schools. An AEBL product, she has played at the varsity level since she was a middle schooler and has guided the Rams to back-to-back 4A Upper State championships. Hartwell played in all 29 games last season while averaging 12.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per contest last season. As Hartwell prepares for her senior campaign at Westside, expect the Rams to remain in the 4A contenders' chat from start to finish once again throughout 2026-27.

Another noteworthy commitment also occurred out of the Upstate as Assemian announced that she will be bringing her talents to Lenoir-Rhyne in the foothills of North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains. Last season, Assemian - who has a familiar last name to many Palmetto State hoops aficionados - fielded an in-state offer courtesy of Lander. The upcoming 2026-27 season will bring a close to a storied high school career for Assemian that also included a stint at 3A Powdersville before wearing Greenville threads. Last season, Assemian guided the Red Raiders to a 5A Division 2 Upper State championship and is sure to be one of the 4A teams to beat in 2026-27. She averaged 10.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 29 games last season.

Godfrey has yet to commit, but at least she has two more schools to consider since our last update. The senior star guard from 5A River Bluff has since landed a pair of in-state offers courtesy of Francis Marion and North Greenville. After running with [program_tooltip program_id='713550' first='Palmetto' last='76ers'] for her final season of grassroots ball, Godfrey is looking to build on a 2025-26 season that saw a solid turnaround for the Gators. Godfrey averaged 10.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game last season. She became the first Gator to reach the 1,000-point plateau last season while guiding River Bluff to its first home playoff game since the start of the decade – and a near-upset of eventual 5A Division 1 Lower State finalist Lexington in the second round.

Maryville College became the latest school to extend an offer in the direction of this talented veteran guard from 5A Byrnes. She also recently secured an offer from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. These two latest offers are in addition to having Haverford College, Montreat, Eastern University and Guilford College among that list of schools. Silver competed in her final AAU season with SC Sixers and is set for her senior season with a Rebels team that has state championship aspirations. She was the team's leader in assists and the second-leading scorer on last season's Byrnes assembling averaging 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 dimes and 1.2 steals per matchup.
