Below is a list of sophomores currently putting up impressive numbers for their teams. Each of these players have consistently been impacting their teams so far this season.
Riley Grudzielanek | Oak Creek | 5’10 F
The Oak Creek forward has been a great role player for her team so far this season. Her skills are well developed and her movement on the floor proves she has a great feel for the game. Although Grudzielanek is averaging 5 points per game, her ceiling for being able to impact the game offensively is extremely high. Her basketball IQ is there and it’s clear when watching her play- right now she is making her teammates better and helping the team win. Look for the Oak Creek sophomore to develop more confidence and take some bigger risks offensively.
Meghan Schultz Meghan Schultz 6'4" | C New Berlin West | 2023 State WI | New Berlin West | 6’4 F
Schultz has been super impressive with her mobility on the floor. She utilizes her size so well on the court and doesn’t let it limit her movement. Her footwork is very developed on both ends of the floor- she’s also shown elite defense so far. Her ability to rebound without fouling and keeping the ball high is fantastic. Offensively she does well in transition and is extremely difficult to defend on the block. She has a bag full of traditional post moves that teams should look out for. This season she is averaging 15 points per game. In a win over a talented Greenfield team, Schultz scored 22 points. She holds offers from IUPUI and University of St. Thomas.
Maggie McGinnis Maggie McGinnis 5'7" | CG Xavier | 2023 WI | Xavier | 5’7 PG
McGinnis is off to an impressive start as expected. After a standout freshman season all eyes were on the Xavier guard to match last season’s efforts. In the first five games of her sophomore season she has done just that. She is a scrappy floor general who is so confident handling the ball. Her handles are so elite it makes her beyond difficult to stop when going through the lane. McGinnis’ ability to use the floater when approached by taller defenders is key to her success as well. She is averaging 18 points per game this season. In a win over Amherst, McGinnis finished with 27 points for her team.
Amayiah Neilon Amayiah Neilon 5'7" | PG Greenfi | 2023 WI | Greenfield | 5’5 PG
Neilon is off to another impressive season with her Greenfield team. A relentless scorer who can impact the game anywhere on the court, Neilon is such a threat offensively. She is averaging 14.4 points per game. In a game against Milwaukee Lutheran, Neilon finished with 25 points in the win. She is tremendous when going downhill and has well developed handles when attacking the rim. Her ability to change pace when attacking is impressive as well. Her scorers mentality doesn’t limit her ability to facilitate as well, she averaged 4 assists per game for her team.
Molly Moore | Lourdes Academy | 5’6 G
Moore has been relentless so far this season and so fantastic offensively. She is averaging 11 points per game for her team and has shown glimpses of how elite she will be in the years to come. In a win over a talented Heritage Christian team, Moore finished with 21 points for her team. A fast paced guard who has incredible range on her three point shot, Moore has made 13 three point baskets in her first 7 games this season.
Allison Hampel Allison Hampel 6'0" | PF Greenfield | 2023 State WI | Greenfield | 5’10 F
A strong post player who oozes confidence on the floor, Hampel has been so impressive on both ends this season. She’s a rebounding specialist and sees a lot of points off put back finishes. Hampel excels in the transition play as she’s athletic enough to get up and down the court the entire game. She’s been taking more risks offensively and shown glimpses of becoming a three level scorer. This season she is averaging 15.3 points per game.
Jorey Buwalda | Randolph | 6’0 F
Buwalda has been a consistent presence so far for her team. She’s a strong forward who seems very comfortable impacting from the lane. Her shot selection is impressive- she doesn’t force much but does well getting open to make the right shot. She’s confident on the perimeter if left open, she will attempt the three point basket. She’s made 4 three point shots in her first 4 games this season. She is averaging 15 points per game and has been the go-to scorer for this team. I think the ceiling is high for Buwalda as she seems to just be developing her scoring ability. An exciting prospect to keep an eye on. In a huge win over Cambria- Friesland, Buwalda scored 19 points for her team.
KK Arnold KK Arnold 5'10" | PG Germantown | 2023 State #8 Nation WI | Germantown | 5’9 PG
The top player in her class is off to a tremendous start for her Germantown squad. After breaking the school record with 41 points in a game, Arnold is clearly such an elite scorer. Her ability to pass doesn’t go unnoticed- she has great court vision and ability to find her teammates on a dime. Arnold is so gifted offensively and can score so effortlessly at all three levels. She is averaging 23.4 points per game.
Paulina Hernandez | Oak Creek | 6’2 F
A forward that other teams should look out for, Hernandez has proven to be very versatile on the floor. A solid two way athlete who can take over a game offensively or be an impact role player at any moment. The Oak Creek sophomore is averaging 7.2 points per game this season and 6.4 rebounds. Hernandez’s ability to read the defense is part of what makes her such a talented player. She uses screens well and has strong cuts through the lane. She can handle the ball if necessary and doesn’t shy away from knocking down a three pointer if left open.
Grace Grocholski Grace Grocholski 5'10" | SF Kettle Moraine | 2023 State WI | Kettle Moraine | 5’10 F
Grocholski has been impressive so far this season and has so much confidence on the floor. She is a beast in the lane and could easily take over on the block with her back to the basket. However, Grocholski is comfortable handling the ball on the pertimer and creating her own shot offensively. She is averaging 25.5 points per game this season and has already knocked down 16 three point baskets.
