Class 3A: Emerging Sophomores For 2021

As the season begins to take shape, this holiday break is the perfect time to start looking ahead - both to the rest of this basketball campaign and the future. We want to offer up thoughts and highlight those players from each class and each grade level some publicity to try and help them gain the attention of a college coach or two. As always, if there is someone you feel we missed and deserves recognition, reach out through any means available. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="127623" first="Katy" last="Reyerson"], West Marshall (2023)</strong> Last year, [player_tooltip player_id="127623" first="Katy" last="Reyerson"] made an impact as a freshman at West Marshall. Now, she is turning heads with her skills on the court in leading the Trojans. Reyerson is the top sophomore scorer and rebounder in Class 3A with 168 points in eight games, adding 91 rebounds, 45 steals, 36 assists and 16 blocks. She is shooting 54 percent from the field, 44 percent from the 3-point line and 67 percent at the free throw stripe. <strong>Grace Schoonhoven, Unity Christian (2023)</strong> In just seven games before the break, Grace Schoonhoven made sure people around the state could spell and pronounce her name. The Unity Christian sophomore scored 131 points to go along with 42 rebounds, 41 assists and 34 steals. Schoonhoven was a premier player as a freshman a season ago, scoring 303 points with 145 rebounds, 113 assists and 74 steals. She has continued to improve her all-around game this year. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="127629" first="Jordyn" last="Stokes"], Estherville-Lincoln Central (2023)</strong> Estherville-Lincoln Central has found a strong third option this year in sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="127629" first="Jordyn" last="Stokes"]. Along with juniors [player_tooltip player_id="63641" first="Jaydan" last="Nitchals"] and [player_tooltip player_id="129065" first="Kaitlyn" last="Tendal"], Stokes can light up the scoreboard in a hurry. She is averaging almost 12 points per game on 51 percent shooting from the field to go with being an incredibly accurate free throw shooter. Stokes also has 27 assists and 25 steals. <strong>Whitney Klyn, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (2023)</strong> She might just be 5-foot-6, but Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont’s Whitney Klyn is not afraid to go after the loose ball. The talented sophomore already has 62 rebounds on the season through six games for the Rockets. Klyn has knocked down over 36 percent of her shots and is 22-for-34 at the free throw line for 82 points. She also has 24 assists, 18 steals and has blocked 11 shots on the season. <strong>A’Lailah Perry, Algona (2023)</strong> Along with classmate [player_tooltip player_id="160572" first="Lillian" last="Etherington"], Algona’s A’Lailah Perry gives the Bulldogs two key building blocks moving forward. Perry has produced 81 points with 52 rebounds, 11 steals, eight assists and seven blocked shots on the year. Perry is a strong inside presence, standing just a shade under 6-foot.
