The school will close in June due to financial woes and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the Diocese of Trenton said in a statement.
The economic impact of the pandemic has affected many families, and the tuition has been difficult for families to afford. The school has seen recent debt, and thus the decision had to be made.
Trenton Catholic often boasts some of the top programs in the state, especially in basketball.
The girls basketball team is nationally ranked, and the program produces Division I athletes on an annual basis.
Trenton Catholic finished last season 28-1, winning the NJSIAA South Jersey, Non-Public B tournament after taking down Rutgers Prep, 53-48.
The program has won as least 25 games the last three seasons and has been in the hunt for sectional and state titles. Trenton Catholic is often the favorite in the Mercer County Tournament. Last season, the program featured two of the top freshmen in the state in Zoe Brooks Zoe Brooks 5'8" | CG St. John Vianney | 2023 State NJ and Aaylah Del Rosario.
