Owens is not entirely leaving basketball behind – and Lander’s athletic program will be the beneficiary of that distinction. When the 5A Division 2 Greenville veteran star announced her commitment to Lander in early February, it was for both basketball and track and field. Owens recently completed a banner 2025-26 that not only saw her reach 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for her high school career but saw the Red Raiders win an Upper State championship. One of two seniors and two team co-captains for this past season’s Greenville bunch, she averaged a double-double of 11 rebounds and 10.6 points plus 5.1 assists and 2.9 steals per contest.

Speaking of guards, the Red Raiders of 5A Division 2 Greenville also feature one of the premier veteran backcourt beasts in the state in Owens. With a 13-point effort, Owens ensured the Red Raiders would have a successful defense of its home court against the Bobcats. Owens understands the art of taking care of the ball and limiting turnovers. A good bit of what she gets accomplished offensively occurs in the paint as she will convert on high-percentage buckets. That play near the rim enables her to corral many rebounds, making Owens a double-double threat even as a guard. Collecting steals as a defender is another strong area of her game. Owens is one of two team captains and plays two sports at Greenville (volleyball).

If one thought last season’s 5A Division 2 Greenville team that advanced to the Upper State finals was dangerous, the upcoming 2025-26 version is poised to really give the state problems. Owens is one of the premier guards in the state and a reason for that is how prolific a passer she is. Her court vision allows her to make feeds down court for a teammate to finish the play. She can also be very accurate from behind the 3-point line and those attributes are complimented by how she can make things happen in close proximity to the rim. A two-sport athlete who also plays volleyball, Owens averaged 15.4 points and 10.8 rebounds plus 4.3 steals and 3.4 assists last season with the Red Raiders.
