Detroit Renaissance (W) vs. Westfield Prep
Kailee Davis Kailee Davis 5'4" | PG Detroit Renaissance | 2021 State MI (2021, G, Detroit Renaissance)
Davis had a game high 27 points and kept the defense moving all night. She went both ways with the dribble drive and constantly moved the ball on the perimeter. Davis scored at all 3 levels. She has quick feet and a fast first step that puts her defenders behind the 8 ball.
Mikyah Finley Mikyah Finley 5'10" | SG Detroit Renaissance | 2021 State MI (2021, Detroit Renaissance)
Finley was excellent against Westfield Prep. She was incredibly efficient, shooting the ball at a high percentage. Her length was a problem all night, especially when attacking the rim. Finley kept her head up and went downhill at the defense for most of the night.
Asia Cochran Asia Cochran 5'8" | SG Westfield Prep | 2022 State MI (2022, G, Westfield Prep)
Cochran had a very impressive night. She battled on the boards on both ends, proving to be an excellent rebounder off the perimeter. Cochran was a huge factor on the defensive end where she helped, rotated, and read passes throughout the night. She broke out in transition quickly off a rebound and showed the ability to take the ball off the dribble to her right.
Shamya Reid Shamya Reid 5'5" | PG Westfield Prep | 2023 State MI (2023, G, Westfield Prep)
Reid is an impressive young athlete. She’s quick on D where she was able to jump passes, pick up a steal, and finish at the other end. Reid has a crossover from right to left that will be a tough stop for the rest of the season. Reid showed the ability to draw contact and get to the line.
Flat Rock (W) vs. New Boston Huron
Ryley Dsentoski (2021, F, Flat Rock)
I was impressed with the play of Ryley Dsentoski. It felt like she had a big influence on the game offensively. Like her teammates, she moved the ball well on offense. Dsentoski showed the ability to catch a pass in mid stride and finish at the rim with a lay in. She was also able to connect with her jumper from deep.
Kayla Giroux Kayla Giroux PF Flat Rock | 2022 State MI (F, Flat Rock)
Giroux has a lot to offer as a player. She was posting up constantly, always moving in the lane and making the defense adjust. Giroux had an impressive 1 dribble drive from the free throw line and was a creative finisher at the rim. She was an excellent passer from the high post where she hit cutters going to the rim. Giroux had multiple put back opportunities due to her activity on the offensive glass.
Courtney Balazs (2021, G, New Boston Huron)
Balazs led the team with 13 points. She provided energy and hustle, and wasn’t afraid to hit the floor for a loose ball. Balazs scored at multiple levels, including a triple and a finish in transition.
Alexis Thomas Alexis Thomas 5'10" | CG New Boston Huron | 2021 State MI (2021, G, New Boston Huron)
I was impressed with Thomas’ overall athleticism and skills with the ball. She can go with either hand and take the ball coast to coast. Thomas kept her passes on a string and when she dished the ball off, she looked for it to come back pass ready. She was able to put pressure on the defense and showed 3 point range on her jumper.
