Continue ReadingTo win the championship in the 14U division, at the Legacy Regional Finals, you had to go 6-0; winning all three on Saturday and doing the same on Sunday. With 4 pools and 14 teams total, there were plenty of championship contenders when the tournament schedule came out. Coming into the final tournament, the City Black had the #1 seed for the PGH Circuit Legacy Division, with Wisconsin Impact 2025 Bugajski being #2, Wisconsin Blizzard 2025 Baumgart at #3 and Wisconsin Impact 2026 Nikolic coming in at the #4 spot. So it makes sense that the City Black and Wisconsin Impact Bugajski were in the championship game on Sunday.
The two teams traded buckets all first half. They actually play a similar style of game. Both teams look to push the ball up on transition. On offense The City will go down hill every chance they get and go to the rim, while Wisconsin Impact looks to drive and kick for the three. WI put up a quick 9-point lead early in the half but The City was able to bounce back by pushing the ball up on transition, putting on a full court press, and some nice give-and-go’s for easy finishes. At the end of the first half the score was 24-22 with Wisconsin Impact holding the lead. The City outscored them by 12 in the second half to win the game by 10.
Champions: The City 2025 Black
The City is full of kids with a lot of potential and they are only in 8th grade. Some of these kids have had the opportunity to play high school this year and it sure does show. With two of their top girls injured, they didn’t let that faze them at all. The backcourt of this team is really scary because they have about five kids who can play the 1 and 2 on offense. Point guard Aneisha Scott Aneisha Scott 5'6" | PG DeLaSalle | 2025 State MN impresses me every time I see her play. She plays with so much heart and she is multi-dimensional on offense. She has a deadly stroke from beyond the arc and can get to the basket with her speed and finesse moves. Teammate London Harris London Harris 5'9" | CG Hopkins | 2025 State MN was great guarding the backcourt on the other teams, getting plenty of steals for easy fast break layups. Both Mya(h)’s caught my eye; Mya McNeil with her sharp shooting, hitting some big shots and Myah Maull Myah Maull 5'7" | CG Eastview | 2025 State MN using her strength to finish around the rim. Kalli McGrane played some of her best basketball in the championship game, leading the team in points with 13.
Runners-up: Wisconsin Impact 2025 Bugajski
Wisconsin Impact came to play from the start of the game getting an early lead in the half. This team shares the ball really well and they were able to attack and kick to the open players a lot. Jenna Welsch is ready to play at the next level. She has a strong body stature and her foot work on offense to score the ball is phenomenal. I can tell she’s been practicing her eurostep because it looks good going both ways. Welsch was the leading scorer on the team this weekend putting up some big numbers. Teammate Maddie Leffel played a solid game in the championship, doing it all for the team. She ran the floor well in transition and hit some knock-down threes. 5’7 guard Danica Gosz plays with a high IQ and will beat you with her smart decision making. Her consistency on the floor is what coaches love. She will do all the little things right including rebounding, being in the right spot and shutting down her person on defense.
