Avery is one of the most dominant traditional posts the state has seen in a while, especially in halfcourt offense. She has solid hands and footwork, she is powerful and establishes position early in possessions, and she has worked hard to become an instinctual finisher over both shoulders. The Purdue University commit does a nice job of keeping the ball high, working her way through contact, and drawing free throw opportunities. She’s also a solid “help side” defender who will block/alter her share of shots each game.

Avery was able to assert her dominance inside. She typically has a size advantage, but she was physical, active, and controlled the glass in her games. She does a really nice job of keeping the ball high, and at one point she collected two or three rebounds in a row without leaving the ground as her opponents exhausted themselves. She also looks as explosive as she ever has.
