Continue ReadingThe Prep Girls Hoops 2025 Watch List promises to be one of the most-read articles of the year. That’s the case pretty much every summer when we start to sort out who the best prospects are among incoming 9th graders. People just want to know. To be clear, we aren’t saying these are the 20 best prospects in the class. We’ll figure out who deserves that label in the fall, but it would be a big surprise if even one of these athletes was left out when the Freshman 50 is released at summer’s end.
Yesterday we introduced you to the first 10 selections for the Watch List. Today we bring you 10 more denoted in alphabetical order by last name.
Madelynn Luft Madelynn Luft 6'1" | PF Kerkhoven-M-S | 2025 State MN – Yellow Medicine County (Rise Southwirth)
We consider it our duty at Prep Girls Hoops to uncover the hidden gems of Minnesota girls basketball, but we don’t do it alone. Thanks to a network of folks around the state, we are constantly being tipped off about emerging talent. Multiple people told us about Luft, who hails from Southwestern Minnesota. After several viewings we like what we see. The 6’1 forward is definitely raw, and she’s a little timid at the moment, but Luft has length, length, length and more length. As a result she is a prodigious shot blocker, both on the ball and from behind. Her handles are pretty good for her size, and she can step outside and knock down shots. With confidence and maturity, we believe Luft may turn out to be the sleeper of the 2025 class.
Addison Mack Addison Mack 5'9" | PG Minnehaha Academy | 2025 State MN – Minnehaha Academy (North Tartan Nike)
Addi first came to our attention one Sunday afternoon in Breakdown Fall League two years ago when, as a tiny 7th grader, she was raining threes (15 in two games I think it was) and directing the offense for the Blake School varsity with the skill and poise of a veteran. Fast forward two years and Mack, who now runs the show at Minnehaha Academy, has scored nearly 1,000 varsity points while evolving into the quintessential floor general. Addi is an elite ball-handler who possesses superior decision-making skills and the ability to finish against bigger, stronger, older players with an arsenal of options. She’s now about 5’8, is as smooth and smart as can be, and just makes the difficult stuff look routine.
Kendall McGee Kendall McGee 5'10" | CG Benilde-St. Margaret's | 2025 State MN – Benilde-St. Margaret’s (Stars Borowicz)
Kendall is a two-year varsity veteran with a ton of AAU championship-level experience. She’s certainly no stranger to the big moment, and is the type of talented athlete who has the ability to dial it up a notch or two to come through in the clutch. That’s exactly what McGee did to cement another state title win for the Minnesota Stars. McGee is a big guard with terrific ball-handling ability and a knack for burying big shots from everywhere. Kendall also makes everyone around her better thanks to excellent court vision and the ability to fire passes where they need to go when they need to go there. She’s quite strong, and can effectively rebound the basketball against players of all sizes. In short, McGee is a big-time prospect.
Keagan McVicker Keagan McVicker 5'9" | CG Hastings | 2025 State MN – Hastings (Fury 2025 Blue)
There’s a ton of talent in Minnesota’s class of 2025. Some of the best prospects have exceptional size, others are really fast and flashy, and most of these girls have excellent overall skillsets. And despite the attention we pay to top prospects, there are a few that fly a little under the radar. That’s where we’d put McVicker, who plays in a low-profile high school program at Hastings. She’s just really, really good at an awful lot of things, much of which goes unnoticed. Keagan just always looks so comfortable on the court, as though she knows exactly what she’s doing. McVicker is a standout defender with a big motor and a physical presence. Offensively she can create for herself and others and puts her stamp all over the game. Keagan won’t be a secret for long.
Jordan Ode Jordan Ode 5'11" | CG Maple Grove | 2025 State MN – Maple Grove (Fury 2025 Blue)
Jordan’s reputation preceded her last year when she showed up as a participant in the Prep Girls Hoops Fall Exclusive, and we were excited to see what she would do against many of the best players in Minnesota. Ode did not disappoint. The 5’11 combo guard was a dominant force game after game. She’s long and lean, with big strides, light feet and the kind of natural athleticism that all great players have. She’s calm, cool and collected on the floor, and owns a ton of confidence. Youngsters seldom play varsity at Maple Grove but Ode did and she did it well, thanks in no small part to the fact that she can defend at a high level. Let’s sum up by saying this: Ode’s potential is exponential.
Tori Schlagel Tori Schlagel 5'9" | CG Eden Prairie | 2025 State MN – Eden Prairie (North Tartan Nike)
I’m not sure people realize just how difficult it is for junior high kids to crack the lineup of the big 4A programs where talent runs deep, the list of terrific opponents is long and the realities of playing against older, bigger, stronger athletes often smacks rookies upside the head in a big way. That makes Tori’s performance this winter at Eden Prairie all the more impressive. The big guard has size, strength, speed, and skill, and is savvy beyond her years. That long list of assets has been on full display this spring as Tori has played a huge role in North Tartan Nike’s substantial success. Schlagel can score, defend and lead, and that’s why she is one of the best college prospects in the Class of 2025.
Aneisha Scott Aneisha Scott 5'6" | PG DeLaSalle | 2025 State MN – DeLaSalle (The City 2025 Black)
Aneisha packs a powerful punch in a small package, with elite quickness, superior speed, and top-notch handles. Every time we watch Scott play we are more impressed by her explosiveness, ability to change speeds to shake her defender and create space, and on-court intelligence. Scott stands only about 5’1, but her knack for grabbing rebounds in spite of serious dimensional disadvantages is also an eye-opener. Scott is a quintessential point guard who can control a contest and give the opponent cause to rethink their game plan. She can also shoot it from way deep and make everyone around her better. As our Tony Ragulen wrote in a recent evaluation of Scott, “This kid is fearless, and is just flat out fun to watch.”
Sam Wills Sam Wills 6'0" | SG Visitation | 2025 State MN – Visitation (Stars Borowicz)
Standing 6 feet tall, with broad shoulders and a big frame, Sam looks like a prototypical power forward. In reality she can play multiple positions and hurt you in many ways. We certainly saw that at the AAU State Tournament where Wills was a dominant force. Some people have pegged Sam as a stretch 4 which makes sense given her size and skill. She’s great inside, where her physical presence and willingness to bang is impressive. She’s also really effective on the perimeter, with the quickness and superior shooting to make you pay out there, too. We love what Wills brings to the table and we’re pretty sure the college coaches will feel the same way.
Gracie Winge Gracie Winge 5'10" | CG Lakeville North | 2025 State MN – Lakeville North (Heat Hinck)
The big guard has been turning heads since the start of the AAU season as more and more observers discover what Grace’s game is all about. Standing about 5’9, Winge has a strong build with wide shoulders, a stout frame and plenty of height with more likely on the way. She is strong and physical, loves to defend, and plays with a healthy dose of sandpaper. Grace can also score in bushels as she has shown in pretty much every tournament where Bill Hinck’s rather impressive squad has made an appearance. It’s going to be exciting watching Winge work her way into the Lakeville North rotation because this is a prospect with serious possibilities.
Tatum Woodson Tatum Woodson 5'9" | CG Hopkins | 2025 State MN – Hopkins (Stars Borowicz)
We haven’t seen Tatum do her thing since the conclusion of the high school season unfortunately. The 5’9 combo guard is currently injured so she hasn’t been part of the big roll Stars Borowicz is on at the moment. She has certainly made her presence felt over the past couple of seasons, though. That shouldn’t be surprising given the speed, athleticism and skill Tatum brings to the table. She is a quick guard with a high basketball IQ and the ability to score in many different ways. She brings a ton of energy to the proceedings at both ends of the floor with a defensive presence that puts pressure on opposing ball-handlers from beginning to end.
